The World's Greatest Carpet Cleaning Forum

Lets get to know "the next Studebaker" a bit better.. (feel free to not answer any touchy subjects)
  • You got into carpet cleaning when and why?
  • What other hobbies or education help juice your creative designs?
  • Was your lint filter born out of necessity or just too much time on your hands?
  • Is the filter still selling well and are you done tweaking it?
  • Was your first wand...
I'm in Turkey with Robert Mann and Randy Hyde on the Master rug cleaner tour. Istanbul is very westernized and more like traveling to Paris or Rome then a middle eastern city. 20161027_155413.jpg 20161027_155413.jpg 20161027_092550_001.jpg 20161027_094324.jpg 20161027_100757.jpg
ROSELLE, IL (October 5, 2016) Jon-Don, a leading national distributor of supplies, equipment, and training to professional contractors and in-house service providers in the disaster restoration, carpet and flooring maintenance, janitorial, and concrete surface prep and polishing segments, has announced that it will now carry Saiger’s Sauce carpet cleaning products from Saiger’s Steam...
I shared some history of the ways our use of cleaning products changed over the last 30 years, and how outside forces influenced those decisions. Where are we today is in many ways, a full circle. Once again, after all the changes of the last few decades, we are using preconditioning agents with pH ranges from 11-12, a few slightly higher. The advent of olefin carpet began the move back to...
I'm about ready to stock up on a fresh supply of fabric protectors. I want to try the stuff that you don't need to add water to. Who has the best that you spray 100% so it'll dry faster?
For twenty years the cleaning industry evolved and mostly benefited from the changes wrought by the "stain resist revolution" in 1986. By 2006 most of the issues that brought that revolution were not often thought of, except by "old timers" who remembered the "early days" (I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I was an "old timer" already 10 years ago...) Then came the "CRI...
One, have you used it long enough to know when it needs boosting? and two, do you have enough faith to boost it when the soil level is borderline and three, are you just a fat lazy American who puts salt and pepper on everything prior to tasting your meal? Which pre spray have you used enough of (lots of new product out right now so dont tell me how great your 4 jobs with Sutley Sauce is...
I appreciate all of the comments under the "Cleaning Products You Use, Part 1" Thread. It seems that most all of us were prespraying carpet with pH 11 or 12 products, hosing down stinky carpets with cationic based quats, and were blissfully unaware of what would happen next. At the risk writing yet another epic, suffice to say that the introduction of stain resistant carpet, especially the...
I've been thinking about this for a while, and if I put this all together in one post, it will be a novel, not a post, and will likely pique the ire of one of my friends from Alabama. So, to start with, I'd like some feedback from our friends who have been cleaning carpet for over 30 years. There is a specific reason I am saying "over 30", based on something that happened in 1986. With that...
A good friend that has techs working for him ran into a problem. I have not personally seen it, but received his description. It is an area next to an intake vent. Urine from pets. Technician misdiagnosed carpet and did not realize it was wool.
  • Used Matrix urine treatment that has peroxide and is 10 ph.
  • Rinsed (one earth).
  • Carpet got brown/yellowish (not a jute backing! so...

Let's get it out there, what have you been told to do about rugs that bleed color? More specifically, what have you been told that causes it and how you are to manage it when it occurs? It is obvious that some chemical manufacturers feature remedies in a bottle. I recommend that they chime in and discuss what they have to offer and why it works. Can we clear the air on any misinformation?...

A good fifteen years ago I had a customer who opened my eyes to what most home owners really want from a visit from their regular carpet cleaning company. To remove the pork chop, plain and simple. With this particular repeat customer her main goal was to remove a very visible eye sore from her living room carpet. They had recently rearranged their furniture and by moving the sofa they...
The jug bloated big time on its way up and over from Vegas. I opened the cap to relive the pressure and shushishugarmamma! eet BURNS! 20160920_183511.jpg 20160920_183540.jpg 20160920_183544.jpg
Today we tackled a floor made with cheap travertine. "Cheap" means the tiles averaged better than 50% filler on the surface. This stuff was uneven, dull and had lippage like a pouting toddler. We offered a basic hone and polish, then sealer. It worked. However, not glassy and deep like other jobs. I used Venom Premium Sealer, but am open to suggestions for next time.
or is it? I purchased one at the same time Jim Martin did. Both he and I scoped out that wand all three days of the convention. We put it through all sorts of tests and compared them to the wands like the TI wand and Dangs Wand. It absolutely smoked them. I've been cleaning with a TI wand for years. I change out the jets at least once a year with a 9 flow and use a 570ss. Maybe my wand was...
Doug Heiferman and I teach 2 rug classes together each year. This fall we have Salem NH on October 5th, 6th & 7th. Should be a great time of year to visit New England. I know I will be making a vacation out of that trip. November 16th, 17th & 18th we will be in Seattle Washington, also a great place to visit. There is a $100 discount for...
