What are the differences between the two products?

Bill;

Our StainResist Powder has a lower pH (9.5),
leaves a softer hand on the carpet
and has better suspending ability for Red Clay soil.
Best rinsing powder we have.
50 Pounds in 6 Gal. Pail.

The PowerMax Powder has a higher pH (10.5)
emulsifies oil & grease better due to Citrus Solvent,
and oxidizes stains better due to Percarbonate.
45 Pounds in 6 Gal. Pail.

Thanks Larry.

We have used both, I just wanted to make sure I knew the differences.

We've been using the stain resist on most jobs, powermax we use on trashed or lots of urine stains, but we don't get those as much, perhaps more urine stains than trashed.

Placed an order for for stainresist for the pail, that's a great price.

What is the real PH? You say 9.5, website says Neutral PH (that would be 7) , then right below it , says 9.8 PH, Then the label on the bottle says 9.7

Is it 9.9 9.7 9.5 Or 7

Well just wait until you read the mix suggestions.

43 oz pr gal RTU in electric or pump sprayer??

Of the couple/three products I've tried of his, Cobby's suggested dilution rates are WAY higher than needed....even for trashed/salvage rags
One of the few (maybe only??) soap makers to be that way.

Most of the the others need max and half for trashed goods if not roto scrubbing first

I've said this before, but it bears repeating. When the PM label instructs you to mix it at 8oz. per gal., but I use it day in-day out at only 2, you know something isn't connecting in Texas.

LOL, you're probably right Larry, but I learned not to trust labels after a few manufacturers asked me to test and offer suggestions. After I saw how unscientific the "scientific" method of the research was I determined to decide for myself.

Honestly, I only glanced at the PM label when I first started using it. I tried it for myself and determined that 2 to 4 oz's was the sweet spot. It wasn't until I saw a post here mentioning the 8 oz label directions that I realized that was the suggestion, and frankly, I was shocked.

We used stain resist on some trashed carpet, and it worked great, it's all we use now.

The DC StainResist uses a low pH phosphate, which does not dry with a film on the carpet fiber . . .

Higher pH builders can leave a harder film on the fiber . . .

which leads to a stiff hand after drying . . .

I just ordered another batch of Powermax. It goes fast at 8oz. per gallon lol. I totally agree with Marty that 2oz. per gal. in pump up sprayer is sufficient in most cases. I love your product Larry. Will have to try some others you carry. Thanks!

At 8oz per gallon that is really strong for some nasty carpet trying to be cleaned with a porty.

For a Truckmount with good heat or even some agitation the less is needed.

Add soft water to the equation and once ounce of any powdered prespray should be all you need

Assuming its a well formulated product.

Since we are talking about two different pH products in this thread . . . .

I have to comment on pH levels for carpet cleaning . . .

Low pH is generally about 9.5 like our StainResist Powder.

High pH is generally about 10.5-11 like our PowerMax Powder .

Anything with pH of 12 or 13 is caustic .

Caustic products are EXTREMELY difficult to rinse off carpet fibers.

Try putting some on your hand and then attempt to rinse it off.

It will feel slimy.

When I saw Larry mentioning it was made to remove red clay from carpet, that caught my attention. I'm always looking for a product to get that crap out. Is it still on the shelf, Larry? I see this thread is a few years old

Matt;

Just a couple of weeks ago I found a nearby source of solid Red clay.

Now I will have some handy to stain & test with.

Two components will help remove that red clay.

One is the phosphate builder with the best suspension abilities (used in StainResist Powder).

Two is an oxidizer to remove any remaining color from the fiber (used in StainResist Powder & PowerMax).

I just ordered a jug of it to test it over here in Georgia.

For polyester carpet with heavy red clay stains, do I need to add any butyl to rinse out any oil buildup?

Let us know how it works in Georgia cuz I'm wanting to try it here in Arkansas.

I haven't used powermax in years and just got some in a few days ago and I think it works even better now. It smells different than it use to but works great

We tested SmartStrand oily traffic lanes and had the best results boosting with POG.

I'm sending you a Qt. sample with your StainResist Powder .

I'll be using my hydroforce at 8:1. How many ounces of POG will I need to add?

I would use 12 oz. per 5 qt HF container for light oiliness in traffic lanes (1.5 oz/gal. diluted for TM)

Remember that inline sprayers inject less, as the water temp approaches 200 degrees.
