    BEST POWDERED EMULSIFIER

What have you found to be the best powdered emulsifier?

Since my favorite , Kleenrite PCX is around $170 for 40 pounds I might be looking at cheaper ones to buy.

Since most are 75% STPP are there really any differences?

    Re: BEST POWDERED EMULSIFIER

I was using ctiicon Promax--had scaling probems even though I use a water softener in my Van (el diabloicon Truck Mount by masterblendicon--not a "Last step" machine. I also have 40 lbs of BioKleen Fiberglow powder that I should toss-I don't know why I don't, since it was a terrible "clogger."

So, I switched back to prochemicon Dry Slurry. Much better. My buddy John La Rue Likes Jusdon O2 liquid--I don't know that that is an emulsifier, though. I find that with pre-scrubbing or even prespaying/raking, , and, in my region, a water softener, the dilution can be pulled way down (I use 8 ounces per 5 gallons and meter 2-3).

I have had great results (only used it a few times) with ctiicon's Efficent Extract.
But I haven't experimented much with Emulsifiers. Like this one a lot though.

For the purposes of this discussion,....

An Emulsifier is a cleaning agent. Most often it refers to the cleaning agent that is run through the machine.

However, a rinse product, while also running through the machine does not have a primary purpose to clean, but to rinse the cleaning agent, applied as a preconditioner or prespray.

People often erroneously refer to their cleaning agent emulsifier as a "rinse", since the feel that since it is the last step, it IS their rinse. However, to be clear, it is only rinse if it's purpose is not to clean.

A rinse formulation usually contains a specialty surfactant whose purpose is to couple the cleaning surfactant of the prespray to the water, while leaving a relatively innocuous residue that will hopefully not contribute to resoiling. The Rinse product will also usually contain an organic acid to correct the fiber pH to more favorable range, either neutral or slightly acidic.

    Re: BEST POWDERED EMULSIFIER

Notwithstanding amateur adulteration with home-brew additives, by virtue of the fact that Deluxe Superclean has a relatively low level of surfactant, the residue is fairly dry and non-resoiling.

We went from Dry Slurry to Heat Wave and recently to Axiom Clean Powder detergent.

It works great for what we clean, but we don't do restaurants, apartments, or chit holes!

I prefer dry slurry mixed at about half of the recommended dilution.

I keep axiom on the truck for cleaning clean carpet or if there is any chemical concern.

Alright, I can see that. But as I recall, Lisa indicated that you had a propensity to add "boosters" that would nullify such a conclusion in your case.

So Shawn if my Kleenrite PCX cost $170 and Dry Slurry is at $148 does that mean the PCX is a better quality product, more surfactant etc?

Bawb adds nasty stuff that screws up any potential gain of a low resudue product...problem is SuperDLX doesn't clean well enough on it's own, so it's kind of a moot point.

be gentle with Bawb. His arm is aching. But yes, he has his Ghetto mixture which is probably a very high residual of soil attracting residue.

Just MORE surfactant does not necessarily make a product better, per se. I would take a product with a superior surfactant blend than simply more surfactant, any day. Moreover, the surfactant component is but one of six principle mechanisms a powdered emulsifier uses to create cleaning effectiveness.

    1. Detergency/Emulsification
    2. Deflocculation,Peptization, Suspension, and Antiredeposition (related as a group)
    3. Buffering
    4. Sequestration
    5. Chemical reaction, i.e. bleaching
    6. Solvency and coupling

IMO, Dry Slurry and PCX are fairly comparable. PCX excels at certain soils, while Dry Slurry others. I think the end user who does a meticulous comparison is probably right whichever product he chooses out of the two. However, PCX is a little rougher on elastomer seals, if your system is such that it might be sensitive in this regard. As well, the aromatic co-solvents that PCX uses can be inhalation offensive to some users, me included.

    Dry Slurry
    Soap Free
and Fiber Plus for delicate fibers and wool.
    They all work well.

Then I have special products for certain needs, Green Cleaning, Scent Free etc.

In my experience, almost all of the major brands work quite well. Mostly the differences are negligible. Unless of course you do a twelve step cleaning like we all do!
