I thought I chime in and I am sure this was already mentioned.....lot of business owners fail at the payrate concepts...wood shop pay rate vs carpet cleaning payrate are not the same thing...lawyer payrate are definitely much higher than $150...try $1000 per hour or more some at $2000/hour...

I had this debate with custy about this before and asked her if i can see the business payrate distribution paper work... She declined kindly and accepted my invoice... I remind her that payrate reflect overhead, not the actual take home pay..

Screw that, he'd pay one way or another.

Karma....It wasn't worth it for me to go through the hassle to make him pay. Filing court paperwork, going to court, and maybe collecting. I can make more money than we lost if I focus my efforts in the time I'd spend chasing him. Many people know that it's not worth if for a certain sum, and that's why they get away with it.

We wrote it off. I have no doubt it will find it's way back to him in some aspect of his life.

Just put a lien on his house. You will get your money one way or the other.

A letter from a lawyer cost about $100 if you don't know one. Could be throwing good money at bad but it often works.

His texts are just as good as his signature and it's worth taking that to court. That's $1200!!!

I could see you giving up if the total was $325. Yeah, write that off. But $1200?????

Send your text message with him to a lawyer and get that money

I have a PA state constable that collects any bad checks or late invoices. Our invoices state that any collection fees will be paid by the customer. He gets the money every time and charges them $50. Last time we had to call him was two years ago.
Meg I made a decision 40 years ago when we started that I would spend what ever it took to collect a bad debt. We have gone after some of the wealthiest people in our community and won every time. The problem has been solved by being very consistent and ruthless. The deadbeats don't call and the rest respect us and pay .

Some times it's good to take the high road Like Meg but $1200 is a huge pain in the wallet. I am a little more like like Ron B. I would go after him one way or the other just for the principle of the thing, even if it cost me.

I've been don this for 10 years now and I think this is only the 3rd time we have had someone not pay. It rarely happens.

I know that is a chunk of change, but we so well and if I can put my efforts into marketing to our high end demographic in the time it would take for me to go after him I can double or triple that amount. That being said, the statuet of limitations for this is 2 years. I could still do something about t.

And the more I engage in it and spend time on it the angrier/annoyed I get. It's not worth it. He will get his.

And in the same vein, we get ours. Wonderful, often unexpected things and kindness happen to me and my family. It's no coincidence. I'd like to keep it that way.

And just "believe" that he needs it more than I do and we are fortunate enough that we can afford him to have it.

I'm sorry for harassing you on this, but your comment on "he will get his", I feel is wrong. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. That's a true statement. If this dude's a rich asshole, he's not gonna see anything bite him back on this, unless you harass that douchebag. Just keep referring back to your original text message with him and present that to the lawyer and courthouse.

As for the time involved in interfering with effecting your efforts in marketing...I disagree with that also. A phone call to a good lawyer, is maybe 30minutes, and going to the courthouse to file this is maybe an hour. The total cost for both should be around $250 combined.

I want to see you collecting that $1200, because I hate to see bullies downgrade our services into the value of a janitor holding a mop at a public facility. We're just as professional as they are, and we need to be paid for what we're worth

Thank you, @Matt Wood I appreciate your perspective. It's so nice to know the "family" has my back. But, I'm not bothered by this and am letting it go. That's how we are choosing to deal with it. I'm good with that, and since it's my problem, you should be too. People like him don't deserve my time, attention and space in my brain!

Since it rarely happens, I can justify the "cost" of this if I average it out over the years....I know it may not make sense to you, but it does for us.

Ok but if he offered half to settle take it and forget about him.

And it's either possible something karmaesque will bite his arse and maybe not.

Saying he'll get his just makes one feel better. It doesnt neccesarily mean it will happen.

I agree with Meg don't let this guy ruin your day.
