All that money for crappy healthcare and it won't cover acupuncture (because it's not a proven remedy even though it's been around 5000 years) massage or colonics. I'm not plugging that 20% donut hole in Medicare with a $170 per month payment because I don't want crappy US healthcare at any cost. I'll use it for maintaining health instead.

Were you raised in Marin County, CA?

On Zee's guy? I can top that! New guy spent all morning training and went to lunch with the crew leader. They come to a stop light and he asks to be let out, he quit. The crew leader said hey you have a Chavez shirt. He pulled it off and tossed it in the truck. :errf:

I tried to get away with the shirt----I just wasn't quick enough..

I’m trying to hire right now. I got a bunch of applications, weeded through them, sent the ones who passed the first round an email with five prescreening questions. So far I’ve received three responses out of fourteen and only one of the three answered the questions. One guy responded with “I’d rather meet you in person” and another said “yes, I’m still interested.” The one who answered the questions missed one, but he might get an interview, I’m not sure yet. If you can’t read a short email and reply as you were asked, how will you follow directions and pay attention to detail when on the job?

I have a BS degree and the better part of a master’s...and way more student loan debt than it was worth. I work for a dentist and for Scott and I do use my degree a little bit, but I wasted a lot of time and money.

Health care in this country is a joke :( I got the EOB in the mail today for my IVF treatment and it says they billed my insurance $14,000, my insurance discount was $10,000, they paid the dr $4,000, and I owe 22 cents. My primary function at the dentist office where I work is to do insurance and billing. That $10,000 discount is a savings to me, sure, but the excellent medical team that took care of me received $10,000 less than they would have if I was a self-pay patient. The money they had to write off does nothing to help them pay salaries, utility bills, buy new equipment, etc. That $10,000 is money the insurance company didn’t have to pay out and some very talented people aren’t adequately compensated. The whole system is screwy :(

The chimps that walked away or fled had just gotten suspicious that you got the garnishment notice for child support!! Or garnishment for medical bill
at the ER. That tribe is legion!!!

Yet they all still drive BMW’s oh well!

Your right its screwy.

But I’m guessing the Dr. or whom ever can decline the insurance and not take it.

The patient would have to look for someone who does.

So you proved by this statement that your degree was BS.

1. What are you looking for? Someone that spent years in college learning how to get laid and party?

My answer to What are you looking for...

First are you after a helper or a lead (Football terms a Center or a Quarterback)

For a helper --shows up, works hard, doesn't say much, doesn't steal---The honesty thing is hardest for me to quantify. Work speed and accuracy can easily be figured out in the field.

For a Quarterback---worker, good with people, honest, honest....

You are qualifying people by their resume?---you spent too much time in a government job or school. Resumes are BS---50% of the stuff on most resumes is made up...

Eyeball to eyeball is the only way to judge. Then working elbow to elbow with them if you think they will fit. Many of my best employees through the years were unable to answer a 4 question email. The only two that were better at evaluating problems than me were a high school dropout and a barely high school graduate. Neither would answer questions in an email.

Both of them would be top of the list if I was going to hire a Quarterback to run a truck.

Are they slobs? Is their car a mess? Are they neat freaks?

Do they smoke? I have found most employees that smoked were out the door on break as soon as I walked out the door...

How fast do they move? Some people have this regulater that keeps them going at such a slow pace you will never make money on them.

How bad do they want the job? What do they need to make?

While I was hiring for a bicycle shop I hired and rehired well over 200 people in 30+ years. 6 month season was really tough.

Most of my best salesmen could not mechanic at all, most of my good mechanics could not sell a bike.
If they could do both I would keep them...

Friends of current employees were great and horrible.

The best resume can be a very slow moving slob with zero personality or work ethic....

Did I mention speed of action is important???

After the craigslist ad goes in and I talk to them will they meet me in 15 minutes?---

In and hour and a half tonight....we are giving one of the guys a chance to clean carpets at a restaurant job.

Not too soiled really....just kind of...and a good place to find out if this might be for him....

One of the other guys is all really gun ho about wanting to get to work...actually...maybe a bit over zealous I am finding right now in his text messages to me....

So I might be learning something about this as well....showing interest and seeing what happens a week or so after not hiring....What is the person really like...seems to be brining out a few habits....

We will see tonight.....

Good luck! Hope you have better success than we have had. It's so difficult finding just the right balance in a technician. We interviewed for a tech position last week. The candidate was as you mentioned over zealous. He walked in speaking very loud and just seemed as if he doesn't have an indoor voice.

Unfortunately he is the best we have seen in recent weeks but he has too much personality to send in people's homes or businesses. He would make a great construction worker. :errf:

We did hire a woman and she worked 4 days but missed today. Sick! ??

Maybe some color correction glasses for the pizza kid and a raise.
The only real way to know is on the job.
Do they need to be told everything?
Are they already doing things that are getting in your way and out of the normal order of things?
How do they handle direction?
Good Attitude...can fix the rest.

Our Pizza Boy has decided to follow down to Minneapolis and chase the girlfriend....

Don't think we have a big enough raise to change his mind...

But the person we are trying tonight seems like nice guy...working in a pharmacy at Walmart and they keep cutting his hours...and I can already offer him $1 more per hour right now to start...and definitely he will have way more hours than they are giving him now once Spring hits again...but at least we are looking to match what he is making now even with potential less Winter hours for January and February.

I just remembered one of the more interesting new guy/helper story.

We're way down in San Diego working in one of those hotel towers that every postcard would show. We were doing the 35000sqft banquet halls and common halls etc..
I'm walking through the hotel lobby and all of a sudden I see the new guy without his shirt on.....

I'm like: whattahell? There are business people everywhere, tourists from all over the world and this guy decided to work without his shirt on because "it's so hot". He thought this would be ok like it would be for a construction worker on a job site.

Last night went pretty good.

Invited him back to try another day this week with us on residential as well...and we are paying him while he tries things with us.

We started him on a wand last night first....

Then we moved him to the Zipper...the Zipper way easier learning curve and he became very comfortable with that.

He has a good sense of humor and is good with people.

After we finished the job, we had a beer together with him so Aron could get to know him more....so far he fits in well.

We will see what his interest is...and he is a bit mechanical and also computer savoy....

Had another contact from another person today too....his mom was one of my students in band and I was actually wondering how here 20 year old son was doing...he was night manager at a fast food joint....
