An oriental rug like this one

This one

They are 2 examples of Islamabad from Pakistan. This type of ierntal rug is very common in my country.
The Pakistani sellers say this rug is made of wool and silk, where silk is the light part of the carpet. In my opinion it is a fraud! In my opinion the light part of the rug is cotton.
I have difficulty washing these rugs. After washing, the light part is not soft and and the aesthetic result is not the best.
I usually wash these rugs with a woolsafe prespray (Prochem Prespray Gold) and rinse with an acid rinse.
Where is the error?

If it has cotton or rayon instead of silk, those fibers may absorb more cleaning solution and clump together resulting in a matted look. Use cold cleaning solutions only. You may be able to groom the rug with a steel velvet brush.

I have always used cold cleaning solution. What is a steel velvet brush? Can you post a link?

Use the velvet brush above gently. If one thing is cheap like cotton instead of silk then expect other features of the rug to be cheap. The wool density on these rugs does not look that good. I would also expect that the quality of the wool to not be good either.

There usually is not a great deal of silk in these rugs you show, just highlights, but it is hard to tell from the pictures.
You must first do a test on the fiber's in question.
Wool and silk will dislove in a bleach solution.
Cotton and cellulosic product along with synthetics will not.
You are not washing/rinsing out enough of cleaning products.
Our final rinse is with glacial acetic acid which there should be plenty of in Italy.
You may also be just leaving a crunchy feel to the rug which would easily be removed with a
Pile lifter or a very thorough vacuuming with a brush roll/beater bar upright Vacuum. Best would be a Tumbler.
Think of it like a cotton shirt left to line dry outside they feel stiff, but a little time in a Dryer and they soften up.

Ron, does the tumbler make the brush unnecessary?
You dry and just put in the tumbler?
For how long?

the silk is in the shiny highlight parts, the bulk of the face fiber is wool and the foundation yarns are cotton.

needs to soaked, and flushed many times to remove the soap residue to make soft.

Brush is just a tool like the tumbler.
The tumbler is a very very useful tool.
It is a great time saver and quality enhancer.
Pre-wash and Post-wash.
Time depends on circumstances of rug, construction, and fibers.5-60 minutes it all depends.
We pile lift a lot of rugs too, actually most.
To do many different rugs you need a lot of tools equipment and knowledge.
The pile lifter is just faster.
