What is your technique for laying down VCT wax/finish?

Flat or string mop?

Pour on floor and move around or dunk the mop in a bucket?

Left to right , up and down or figure eights?

and how do you kill time between coats?

You should see my microfiber flat-mop wax setup for VCT. Maybe i'll dig it out and post pictures. It's actually pretty slick.

If the area is completely empty the flat mop would be the best choice. If lots of obstructions then the string mop is generally used. I never liked using a mop bucket as it’s just one more thing to clean.

As far as applying the finish, I frame the room and then use the figure eight motion.

Catch up on your reading between coats.

32inch flat mop , poor down about a 10ft line , then go back and forth spreading out the wax. Killing time? sitting on a 5 gallon bucket of wax. I will put down blowers to speed dry so as the wax is drying I'm moving the blowers.

How far do you spread away from that line, and how thick in the line?

Pouring from a 5 gallon bucket cant be fun..

On this floor I used 1 gallon jugs , I only use 5 gallon jugs at Nexteer.

I poured the wax center between the bleachers and the first black line and did the same with all the other lines , something in my head says stay between the lines

How thick? I guess enough to make sure it will cover the area I'm spreading it over.

I use a flat mop and put a valve in the cap of the box. Turn the valve on to get a 2 to 3 in line and figure eight the mop without having to stretch. On an open area works better if someone else is pushing the box around. Thickness not so heavy as to see bubbles and not so thin that the mop drags, just barely see little ridges in the wax as you are applying it.

Flat mop and i use something like this to pour the wax
deep-sea-bloem-planters-jw41-31-64_1000.jpg

I do figure 8, i guess.

I can do 500 sf at a time.

I use fan to speed dry but i use betco Hard as Nails most of time. Drys fast, less than thirty minutes

3m backpack system cut the edges then figure 8's, thin coats they dry faster and last longer with less powdering

If using an airmover turn it on briefly before you start applying, its surprising where dust can come from and blow it all over a wet coat

For large areas at least a 24 ounce mop. Put a couple trash bags in a bucket as a liner and pour in the wax you need.
When done wrap the bag around the mop and tape it off until the next job. Rinse the ringer off.

I mop the whole job while stripping using several buckets and mops changing water often.
Buffer and strip pads and a doodle bug. Apply stripper with a mop and bucket.
