Last year I started my own business and it's been doing great. I have such great clients and they are happy with my service. We are a 3 man operation here and my accountant recently noticed that we are beginning to have a higher volume of past due accounts. We have reached out and sent invoices but have not been having much success. I was thinking of just writing them off but maybe there is another option. I thought about calling an attorney. Has anyone else run into this and what did you do?

just show up at their door and ask for the money.
Stop being a bank!
Collect payment before, during or after the work is done, but don't leave until you are paid.
don't take checks on move-outs or move ins-- since you wont be able to tell the difference.

Maybe we could scare the scams away from here like....

"Hey MandiR1018. That's a pretty name. Could you show us a picture of yourself?"

Was that creepy enough?

Why is this so hard to figure out. You took there dirt, grease, and grime and they didn't pay. Walk through the front door with your drain hose and ask where they would like it returned.

Think this through.

I am reasonably familiar with the law in the UK and Australia.

I assume the law is similar in the States.

This action is making a threat with menaces to destroy property. Depending on the victim impact statement you are looking at serious consequences when it goes to court.

If you follow through with it and discharge the waste then you will be liable for replacement of the carpet, willful destruction of property, probable loss of your business and possible jail time.

I can understand why carpet cleaners at times feel like this though.

They need to work on their scenario better

You don't simply Invoice or write letters for collecting

And how the hell can you qualify your company as having 'great customers' when you have deadbeats ?

Frickin call them and if they ignore you show up at their door

Had one this year I had to facebook stalk. Saw some people I know on their friends list and name dropped them that I would shame them for not paying. Did that on messenger.

Got paid that day after several months of calls and reinvoicing.
