Michigan just passed a tax on certain services deemed "discretionary" including carpet cleaning. What will we be looking at to comply with their new directive? TIA

They're still sharpening the pencil on compliance. I love how the newspapers say "proposed tax" when indeed it's just a matter of time now.

Where are the Granholm/Michigan democrat supporters here? Let's hear your gloss-over of this gem.

I would have voted to keep Lansing closed for as long as necessary until Granholm cracked. The Repubs, again, made her look like a hero. Way to go, boys and girls. Congratulations on backstabbing us again.

At least when the gov't isn't working they can't do much damage.

In Ohio we collect sales tax on CC. Just have to pay up twice a year. They changed it a couple of years ago and now you have to report on a county by county basis.

sales tax

We are lucky out here in Oregon. We don't have any sales tax on anything. I hope it stays that way

The sales tax on services such as carpet cleaning will not take effect till dec 1st., the income tax increase will be immediate from what I hear.

As far as I understand in FL there is not tax on services. Only if you sell something. Although I do have a sales tax number and file every month a big 0 but I have it in case I need it I suppose.

We have had sales tax (7%) on cc for about 3 years now. Payable monthly, online filing makes it fairly easy. Was pretty irked early on that the gov was getting their 7% right off the top. Now, it's just another cost of doing bus.

I have to mail mine in quarterly.

Pain in the ass.

7 %.

Carry your tax certificate with you because you will get those asshole customers who don't want to pay it.Then you show them the certificate and give them the 800 number to call .

Bob -

As I was saying above, the media is reporting a "proposed tax" for services. I suppose they want us to believe that it's not a done deal yet. Income tax increase is a done deal. From 3.9 to 4.35 effective today.

Get this - they are saying that the state will rollback the tax from 4.35 back to 3.9 starting in 2011. ROFLMAO!!! Uh huh I'll believe that when Marty's pigs fly...

From what I hear Jenny from the Blockheads was ready to take a 4.1% hike if they got their service tax, but the democrats quickly pulled her aside and said, "Jenny - we can get 4.3. Shut up already!" It was reported widely on the news last night. Not the shut up part, but it pretty much went down like that.

The Detroit News had a good article about Lansing totally blowing a great chance to finally get this budget right. The News argues that this is a very short-term bandaid and we'll see this buffoonery again soon.

Sickening.

Keep Voting those Democrats/Socialist in to office. They know what is best for you and your money.

In a few years we can look forward to Hitlery Clinton,s income redistribution program and National Health insurance paid by small businesses.

in utah we have nearly all republicans, we are the only state I know of that had a 1.6 billion surplus and we still get a tax increase. the 1.6 billion was blown and a 900 million bond for roads passed, so not only was the 1.6 spent but nearly another billion also, these days republicans are about the same as dems

In Washington State, CC is considered maintenance and not subject to sales tax. Do a re-stretch or repair then clean and you have now done repairs which are taxable and you are supposed to charge sales tax on the whole ticket. I cheat!!!! I write separate invoices for each!!!! Our clients love it when I explain why 2 invoices.. We pay enough excise tax as it is..

Some clients have stated they paid sales taxes to other cleaning
company's. They must just add it to their bottom line..

Hard to believe, but in NY we are not supposed to charge tax on CC, it is considered "laundering", so, it is not taxable. Everything else you can think of IS.

Oh I believe it. There's plenty of mafia in the laundry business.

Is concrete taxed in NY?

Our state doesn't require it but I still go ahead and collect it. All the transplanted people here don't know any better.

I call it "upselling."
