Whenever you think everything is in control, ITS NOT!
One tech this week broke his ankle on some ice and another is leaving to greener pastures.

Murphy was definitely a carpet cleaner ... :bull:

Business "challenges" are like wolves...
They travel in packs.

Bakers dozen and a bunch of casuals
One of the casuals can pick up 2-3 days starting next week

Plus its not that busy anyway, could have been much worse in april/may.

Isn't always like that? It is for us, things will be smooth as a babies butt here for months and then an earth quake and everything is shaky.

I just cherish the smooth ride and hang on for the shaky one.

Let's just say Murphy kick my ace today...

Apparently cleaning tile/grout when it's 5 below is NOT a good idea.

Who knew.

Turn over is a part of business.

If it were not for techs and truck mounts, I might like this business more.

By techs I mean the turn over of staff. Our current staff is great.

The best advice I have heard was by our own Joe Appleby

"Hire two people because one of them won't work out."

Almost 40 years ago my business partner (who now owns a 30 million dollar a year business) told me, "Steve, now matter how much we interview and investigate it will always be a crap shoot." And so it is...

Steve

PS Papa Nick Paolella (of Jon-Don fame) told me once, "We hire slow and we fire fast when we realize we have made a mistake." You generally know within a few weeks if someone is a "keeper" or not. Much better to gently and respectfully cut your losses and let them (and you) get on with life. The first few weeks (to coin a phrase) "Is as good as it gets!" (It don't get any better.)

Not a big mystery why....

In 1992 I made $12 hour with full health insurance and a pension.
The top rate was $23 hour

My gawd, who is paying that now?
20 years later...
