Have a customer who has CGD installed over Mable in a Church.

They would like the carpet removed.

Suggestions for what will remove the carpet, but not hurt the marble?

What condition should the Marble be expected to be in once the carpet is removed?

Thanks

I am pretty certain the marble has already been harmed. Sometimes the carpet can just be pulled up. This would be old adhesvice or insufficient adhesive originally applied. Other times you need a scraping machine and some adhesive / mastic remover. There are some folks in Orlando at the Aramsco store who could demo this procedure and rent you the needed equipment.

Expect the marble to need some multi-step polishing. You could contact 1 800 MARBLEMAN in St Pete to do some hands on training.

Let them remove it. If you do- Basically grab a corner and pull and cut as needed to make handling manageable. Probably a reason they covered the marble in the first place...scratched up, chipped, stained... make sure you don't own their problem. This is probably not a job to learn on, unless you get them to sign liability waver and if they do... find experienced company to sub it to. Watch them and learn. Best of luck!

Ross, once Sanford & Son pull the carpet, there will be lots of glue swirls. Floor stripper will probably take the residues right off, perhaps with a bit of scraping with those cheap white plastic scrapers, or the red plastic chisels you can buy at Harbor Freight, or a blue Malish brush on your 175. Mop the slops.

What condition the marble is in is anyone's guess, but it can be honed and polished, even if permanently stained. Tell 'em the stains are beauty marks.. As the others have said if you aren't yet comfortable doing the honing, sub it out and get some hands-on time.

Agree with Cam and Scott-
Once the carpet is removed, the type and condition of the stone will dictate the job.
We usually have to do some level of grinding and filling to begin the process.
