Folowing on from my website saga last week, it seems the weakness is the fact I'm still building with DW8. (approx 4-5 years old.)

My IT guy wants to upgrade me to a webbased editor but I'm a bit sus of that due to the fact they never used to be reliable in maintaining layout etc when uploaded. What are they like now? The software name is Joomla if anyone knows about it.)

Anyone got any suggestions? Do I upgrade to the latest CS4 or go with the IT guys suggestion.

My website hosting is a mere $20/week and the edit software is included in that price if I swing across.

I like the freedom of building and maintaining my own site so suggestions and referrals to other techs is not really what I'm after thanks.

My website has been hacked twice in three months with a virus attached this time (apparently)

I like DW8, but the advice so far is it has too many loopholes now that it's that old and that's how they are getting in?

My hosting company says mine is the only one affected both times and the majority of their websites that they host are built on Joomla and he claims it;s far more robust compared to DW8.

There is tons of people that use DW8 and I dont see it as that big of a problem. If your site is getting hacked that often I would think the people running the servers could do something about that.

Just to be up front if you are using a bootleg copy of DW8 there is a chance that hackers have done some programming on your copy to collect info when your online. If that is the case then remove everything that has to do with the bootleg copy and go find a new bootleg copy on puzo.org

Also have you updated DW8

No, my copy of DW8 was bought at full price and all legit and as the full deal not academic and downloaded direct from Adobe.

I guess I'm at the mercy of his diagnosis/suggestions, although because he's not charging more for it, he doesn't stand to gain by swinging me across to Joomla unless he gets a kickback from them.

Have you spoke with the people at adobe or updated with the newest patches?

We use siteground for hosting and they also push joomla and a couple others but I like DW8

There is a button at top to click and it will update DW8.

But I would still contact adobe and ask if there is a security problem going on with DW.

I've had a some experience with this. I made my website with DreamWeaver 8. I think you might want to get a second opinion on what is going on. I bet it has nothing to do with DW at all. If your website was hacked - the server was hacked. The server isn't set up by DW. They probably want to switch you to the new program because it is on a more secure server. If there is a problem with DW I am certain that Adobe is aware of it.

Dreamweaver 8 is fine..There are no major differences between that and Dreamweaver CS3, i have both. Most of the code is decently clean as it is. How intensive is your site your making?

Walt is right, DW (most likely) has nothing to do with your website being hacked. I would first look at the host server.
You shouldnt need the newest version of DW unless it has features you desire that are not in your current version.

It is my opinion that (properly coded and optimized) HTML websites (like those that can be built with Dreamweaver) usually rank better in the search engines than a CMS (Content Management System) like Joomla, (especially the default version).

We offer several CMS type solutions including Joomla and our business hosting is only $20 MONTHLY (Joomla, Drupal, Geeklog, Mambo, PHP Nuke, phpWCMS, phpWebSite, Post-Nuke, Siteframe, TYPO3, XOOPS, Zikula) Also have DIY packages starting as little as $4.95 MONTHLY.
