...you know that smell....when you walk in and it hits you...that mothball smell. Vomit.

What would you recommend to use on wool area rugs? They have been in the washpit already... I'm drying them now and the stench is still quite potent.

No doubt Taco is a specialist on odors emanating from old women.

Do you specifically mean moth ballz?

Is it the moth ball scent that is still there or the hurled up Ensure stank?

It is the mothball scent. Don't smell anything else.

Have you considered the fact that she will very likely not notice the only objects in her apt that do not smell like a moths balls?

Any older folk still using Mballz have likely been using them their entire lives and are will not find the odor offensive.

She will probably be more upset if it smelled like anything else other than moth balls.

I have considered that exact scenario... But for my sake -while it's in the shop- I wanted to eliminate as much of it as I could.

My basic understanding is that the component in a moth's berlz converts from a solid to a gas, and it is that gas that can permeate and be absorbed into other objects, and will only completely dissipate very slowly over time assuming the source is removed.

Porous animal hair is probably a great medium to absorb and hold on to the Napthalene molecules.

Every time I get a whip of moth balls I am brought back to my Grandfathers basement where the odor of decades of Napthalene exposure overpowered everything else.

Never one bug to be found.

And I was sitting here thinking it was the "old people" funk... You know damn well what I'm talking bout... That B.O. Stench some elderly people got...

I'd give it some sunshine for maybe a week.. Hopefully it'll dissipate some... We have older folks demand us put mothballs in it when they store there rugs... They even crush it in the box with a hammer... As long as they're paying, I could care less...

I am curious what a soak in an encap product or encap-deodorizing product would do.

Its all process of getting old...you'll start the process of smelling like that at around 40 yrs old..just the natural fats secreted out of your skin oxidized more quickly than normal and harder to wash off, sometime not at all no matter how clean their lifestyle are. Its not BO Stench...

I find if I spray these stubborn ones with male cat piss that really masks it all. Nobody has ever been able to smell anything else after the treatment..... Hope this helps you....

Consider Hydrocide or Hydrocide Xtreme. This is an encapsulating / absorbing deodorizer. We have found it very successful on a number of odors from wool rugs. But never tested it on moth balls.

I think fresh air would be a great help as well. Maybe some fans blowing air through the rug.
