my customer inherited this from his mom a few months ago..
he was wondering what the value was and if it was worth getting it professionally appraised for sale.
he knows she has had it for as long as he can remember..30+ years
what do ya think.
thanks

oh i guess a size would help..he thinks it is 16x20 or somewhat close to that..

It’s a Karastan machine made rug this is a “floral Kerman design” believe they made these in 12x18 or 12x20 for awhile but not anymore. Large rugs can be a hard sell the size is limiting factor I could throw a value on it but in today’s market?... I cleaned an 8.8 x12 Karastan a couple months back in new condition rug was maybe 5 years old and the person paid 400. For it.

Had a customer buy one from the country club in that shape for $90.00

We cleaned it for $360.00, it cleaned up great. I think she was going to sell it because it wouldn't fit her home.

I almost bought it from her but my dining room is not that large either.

We have a a 9x12 and an 6x9 in our showrrom of that rug right now. Karastan 742. 12x18 would be pretty close. the 9x12's of the 700 original seriers are running along $2000.00 right now brand new retail. Right now the only market for Older Karstan rugs are the very old ones around 60 plus years old and it has to be the right time with the right person.

The rug you have there is one of karstan's most popular and is still selling strong today. They probably won't accumulate any value for a long, long time if ever. But they clean up like nobody's business, and cared for regularly atleast or so and it will last several generations.

The larger rugs were often special ordered and not stocked regularly. The 12x18 would run around 5000 new today roughly and about 30 years ago you were probably looking at a $2000.00 investment even then.
