I don't pay to get new customers. I'm listed in the phone book if past customers need to find me. Other then that, I don't advertise.

Even a referral costs money.
You have to answer the phone, talk with them, explain who you are (granted-not as much since they are referred), drive out, do the quote.
There might not be any "advertising dollars" spent to acquire the client but you do have "some" time invested to make them "your new" client.
