Agreed. For a good app that SM is, the mobile web app version needs to be outsourced to a different set of developers. I check the web app a lot during the day looking up accounts etc. it would take me 15 mins to build a new account, add order and schedule it. Shouldn't be like that.

How to REALLY edit a work order in SM Mobile:

1. Open App, be SURE you're using the most updated release.

2. Immediately get frustrated, call the office, and have them do it in SM 5.

We edit and create work orders in Mobile 2 on a tablet every day, what's the problem? Unless the guys don't know the total they close the job out, record the payment and I don't have to do anything.

Just a joke.

I think Mobile 2 is fine and useful as well.

Thanks for doing that

But to use Full like that is rediculous.

Agreed.

Did you see how many times he tapped on the wrong thing? Had to expand to click then reduce the image to see everything and click on the next thing. Users want a tap and go version that works on a mobile device without having to do all that. Trying to run the full version on a smart phone is not easy.

And the mobile version isn't laid out the same way. My guys have found certain things more challenging to navigate on a phone in that version. That is why w have a laptop and jet pack for each van so they can use the full version in the field.

Not really-- it gets done during the numerous micro minutes we otherwise waste everyday.. ie, waiting for customers, stop lights, waiting in line, waiting for bartender to bring me my beer.
When I get home most the work is already done.
Just remember-- it use to take 1.5 days to download a video-- now we get shit done so much faster.

You must be having those slow times with the mobile app!?-- or have very slow Internet.-- doesn't take me that long.

I was having difficulty because of my thick fingers and thumbs. I was also going cross eyed while shooting the video-- looking through one phone while it filmed in my left hand while trying to use a the other phone with only 1 hand-- it goes a lot faster in reality.

No, you were having trouble, because its a pain in the ass to click on that mobile app! Your demo looks like me doing it, but I have smaller hands. (Not Donald Trump small tho). :)

It's just not setup to be a web app. Web apps are easy to click and add things. You shouldn't have to resize the screen to see things, or click twice or three times to get to another page. That's not mobile friendly. If that could be fixed (The web app), that would make the world of difference using it out in the field.

Start watching his video at 1 min and 45 sec. Does that really seem easy....

Nope! Hand written copy here.. Too much BS! I'll have the hand written invoice done by the time my guy packs up the hoses, and most of the time I beat him..

When your employee is cleaning stairs that is dead time for whoever is helping, that is the time to write invoices, or clean up the back of the van, or prep the next area..

I really like the SM work order template. We print work orders beginning of day. If something changes we hand write in changes on customer receipt at the job then edit the order before completing it in the computer at the end of the day. No way could my guys waste time doing that in the field on the "web app"... Seriously, watch Johns video, its such a pain in the ass resizing the screen, clicking some where and it clicks else where. Thats my only complaint with SM which when I thought 6 was coming out, I thought it would fix the web app part. I've got some buddies over at BrieBug that do fullstack dev... they could fix that up in a week for ya.

If I was in SF paying this..
Monthly rent for 85 m2 (900 Sqft) furnished accommodation in EXPENSIVE area $4,328

I'd be renting a rug doctor to clean my carpet. You gotta be making good money to be living decently there. Stayed in Fisherman's Warf a few months ago and paid over $500 a night for a shit room with carpet pulling up. I still have the pic on my Yelp Review for them. Isn't that where Yelp is based?

We spent @ a half hour on the phone with HCP today. I've been watching it since it was like $25 a month.

Times have changed. The plan they recommend we get on (middle one) is near $140/month. Definitely no backflips being thrown over the price.

I feel like I'm trapped a little now. We've got all kinds of time and money invested in SM.

I'll probably continue wrestling with the Mobile 2 version on my iPad in the field for another 5 years...my helper eventually will too.

It'll be like some terrible, miserable rite of passage when it's time to go out on his own. Nothing like complicating an already difficult job!

At least Mel loves it in the office!

Im being nosy but I think your job average should be higher in SF..:shifty:

I tried to raise my prices and hit a lot of resistance, and had to lower them back down. Most of the places we do are only 3 rooms, and maybe a sofa. We don't do any high end work like tile or wood.

I know Joe.

Joe would not be proud of that Video John.

HCP would eat him alive if they saw that.

I haven't done many videos-- I think that was #3.. I take terrible selfies also..
I totally agree it could be greatly improved but I was rushing and had a plane to catch. I'm back in Thailand again.:very_drunk:

I'm not picking on your video skills by any means...

All good---I didn't take it personally. I wish I had help or time to have done a better video.

We don't do tile and stone because I got spooked one time when the fumes from the tile cleaner etched a customer's stainless steel appliances, another time the chem got on the vac hose and dissolved a wool carpet.
We don't do wood because almost every time the customer had waited too long and needed more then just maintenance.-- seemed like I was just wasting my time with bids and inspections.
I also lack confidence in my guys to take the time to properly prep an area for tile or wood work.. They also said they prefer not to spend a full day in one customers house-- however that was a few years ago when they were younger.. Now that they have a few regular customers where they do spend a full day maybe they are beginning to see that it is wiser to do one big job rather then rushing all over town to do 3 or 5 jobs.

I am entertaining the idea of offer these services and sending my guys to learn these skills.
Might even do the IICRC certification BS again since Smart Strand requires it.

Tile, LVP and laminates?

You're blowing it big time.

I've been thinking the same thing recently.. need to "Milk" the customer for more while there.
What's a fair price to charge? What chem do you use on LVP and Laminates?
DO I need to tarp n tape off carpet and appliances?
