Could you please explain a little more about the stone “wax” mentioned in the pre-questions? When you mentioned paste you got me thinking of very old school SCJ traffic paste wax for wood.
I’m assuming there are no similarities correct?
What about discoloration?
Can soil/dirt be embedded into the wax?
Does it discolor over time?
Is there ever or could there ever be a reason to “strip” this product off of the floor?
What’s the possibility of “waxing” stuff to the floor when recoating, i.e. hair, grit, etc?
Is there a need to recoat and if so how often?
Is it UV stable?
When buffed, will it swirl like UHS finishes of old like Equinox or Signature?
Does it provide any hydro or oil phobic protection?

Wow! Thats alot of questions in one post.

Its not a regular paste wax, its the same product that thousands of fabricators use for edges to bring gloss and color by filling in the pores.

It hardens

It doesn't discolor

If buffed off properly there is no evidence its even there except for the increased repelency.

It repels water and oil.

Its only meant for use on counter tops.

I am a newbie to stone. I do a ton of tile and grout and have had a ton of my customers ask me about marble showers and foyers. I haven't taken the stone class is this an easy area for the monkey pads. we are talking about family use , usually just soap scum

I have a Limestone job coming up in a very ritzy home.

Each 12 by12 tile has a very deep beveled edge, almost a half inch drop.

Some acid etching but mostly soiled.

How would you go about cleaning and dealing with the edge issue?

1. Sweep the area very well
2. Apply our stone cleaner mixed with hot water
3. 30 minute dwell time if extremely soiled
4. Rinse with low pressure ( barely enough to make your spinner turn

What happens next depends on the desired look...

Honed dull? 200 grit monkey pad

Satin Hone? 800

Polished? Go up to 11,000

How do I polish the beveled edge though?
No way will the MPs get in there.

Do the MPs work on concrete as well as calcium based stone?

Yes but we have special pads coming soon for granite, concrete, corian and several other surfaces.

Monkey Pads
Sqweegee
Wet Vac portable or truck mount
175 rotary machine, cimex or orbital ( I reccomend the "ORBITRON" or the cimex) WAY FASTER
Water

That’s way cool, there aren’t a lot of intentionally pillowed floors out there now days (just poorly flattened ones). If the lower edge is still good than it wouldn’t seem you need to get down that low into the stone I wouldn’t think would you? It would seem that the only question would be if the MPS would match factory. Dana that would also go along with picture framing, how well do the MPs blend in with factory when it comes to picture framing?

What is your experience with Dry Treat Stain Proof sealer?

Have you tested it much?

Did I hear you say that you will have a comparable product soon?

Many of us clean tile and grout with a turbo hybrid.

What do you use?

Have you modified any of your tile and grout cleaning tools?

Do you have any better tools? Any good stuff you see in Europe that should be over here that might be better?

Dana;

Why do you not recommend any acid to use with the Monkey Pads ?

Wouldn't a harder stone require some acid,
to keep the polishing time reasonable ?

I have concrete counter tops. Some acid etching.

As per Dana's advice, I'm gonna go from 400 to 11,000 the seal then wax.

I tested the wax and it gave a real nice deep dark look.

Earlier there was a comment about using an O.P. machine with the Monkey Pads and that it worked very well. Is this really the case? What machine was used and is extra weight needed and is it more effective than a 175 rotary?

The Cimex Three head planetary or "ORBOT" orbital machine will outperform any rotary by a huge margin. Less weight is better with these machines.

Because of the flexible nature of the pads, do you find them cutting out the softer spots of the stone and leaving the harder spots; leaving the stone with a “texture” to it when it’s polished? I’ve had this problem with other similar pads.

I have used pads “similar” (fiber based pads with a ceramic based abrasive grit applied to one side) made by two different companies. Their grits have been “Course, Medium, Fine and Very Fine”. The other is done in colors but seem to most closely represent “1,500 and 3.000 grits”. The first ones worked well enough in most applications but had a tendency to cut out the softer spots of the stone and leave the harder ones making the stone much more “textured” than it should have been. Have you seen that with your pads?

If used improperly, that can happen. Using an orbital or cimex without weights virtually eliminates that. We have a next phase of the pads coming soon that are even more aggressive and eliminate that completely with any machine. We also have them for concrete, granite, porcelain and corian.

Can your wax be used outdoors on a concrete BBQ counter top?

Yes, just reapply more often, when repellacy dwindles. Varies, I applied it to my neighbors granite over a year ago and its in direct sunlight every day in San Diego and it still looks great and still repells

Dana – “Hot Seat” is a great name for this I think. Not because people are raggen on you or giving you a hard time – it’s gotta be murder trying to keep up with all the Q’s coming at you. You’re doing a great job, thanks for your time.
