Laura is the new face of Prochem.
Attend any of the big shows these days and your have the pleasure of dealing with Laura.

She can walk the walk and talk the truckmount talk..

Along with Jessika James, it's a unique approach by Prochem to put women out front to represent a truckmount and chemical manufacturer.

I'd like to ask Laura a few questions..

    • How long have you been at Prochem?
    • Where did you work before?
    • Did you think I was a total creep the first time we met and I asked if you were Tim Baker's teen age'd daughter? ( I can't be the only one who has told you that you look 18 years old, sorry..:icon_redface:)
    • Have you ever cleaned a carpet with a truckmount?
    • How often do you get stumped with a question at a trade show?
    • Are you IICRC certified?
    • What do you love about this industry and what do you hate?
    • Would you ever let somebody use a low moisture process in your home?
    • Could you whip Rick Aranda in a hula hoop contest?
    • Would you mind describing your average work day?
    • and finally, where do you see yourself in five years?

Thank you for the introduction Mikey! And I hope to see some of you out at Industry events!

How long have you been at Prochem?

About 7 years… I started working for Prochem in August of 2007, took a brief “sabbatical” in 2010 and came running back in 2011 and here I am!

    Where did you work before?

I worked at a small women’s Consignment store for four years prior.

Did you think I was a total creep the first time we met and I asked if you were Tim Baker's teen age'd daughter? ( I can't be the only one who has told you that you look 18 years old, sorry..[IMG])

You were not the first and you won’t be the last to ask if I am a co-worker’s daughter! But to answer the question… no!! I did not think you were a creep since you didn’t follow up with a pick-up line after you found out I was of legal age… And yes that happens more often than one might anticipate.

Have you ever cleaned a carpet with a truckmount?

I have… and I won’t lie... I was terrible. I couldn’t get the push / pull strokes down. And being vertically challenged didn’t help. I keep trying, which is what I think is important, but I have a long way to go before you want me helping on a job.

How often do you get stumped with a question at a trade show?

Every time… I am not ashamed to say I do not know it all. And I doubt I ever will. But I am willing to acknowledge that every tradeshow provides the opportunity to learn and I am so very thankful that so many people in this industry love to share their wealth of knowledge!

    Are you IICRC certified?

I have not taken any of the certification tests. I have sat in on classes and read the manuals (don’t judge) but haven’t taken the pen to the paper yet. I get the pleasure of sitting in on a lot of Tim’s classes. Next week I get to learn all about spotting!

What do you love about this industry and what do you hate?

I love the people. I love continuous learning. No day is the same. I always tell people if I could be a professional student the rest of my life (without getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt) I would. So, the cleaning industry provides me with the opportunity to continuously learn new things and meet new people, which is what I love the most and some of the reasons why I came back.

Hate is a strong word, and I can’t think of a specific industry dislike. But in general I dislike the word moist, the sound of someone biting into a crisp apple and all IPAs.

Would you ever let somebody use a low moisture process in your home?

I have a preference for HWE for use in my own home. But I have used what I like to call “interim” cleaning methods for maintenance for in-between cleanings.

Could you whip Rick Aranda in a hula hoop contest?

I am not sure… Rick is a pretty competitive guy and I have no doubt it would be close. But I have a lower center of gravity that might give me a slight edge!

Would you mind describing your average work day?

I talk with people all day long...Phone, e-mail, e-mail, e-mail, phone, phone, phone, e-mail… repeat for 9 hours.

There are occasional meetings and water / food breaks in there. But only because I get “hangry” if I don’t eat. And no one wants to see that!

and finally, where do you see yourself in five years?

I am going after Glen’s job. Shh, don’t tell him I said that :)

Thank you for coming on board Laura

I came here when this place started so that I could get honest feedback that I wasn't convinced I'd as readily hear in the classroom and showroom. Ask a question here, and you will get honest responses that will usually be tactful but clear. What impresses me about Mikeysboard is the respect shown for honest inquiry.

You might get teased a little, but that just means you have been accepted into the flock.

Moist isn't such a terrible word. How else to describe a cake? But for a woman it may suggest an emotion, a sudden, unexpected and very possibly spectacularly inappropriate emotion. But still not a bad word.

As long as you reply to Marty barefoot from your kitchen, you could bold face lie and he'd accept the answer!!!!

PS Marty's great grand father invented the tooth brush in 1889 in Pratville Alabama, had it been invented any where else, it would have been called a "Teeth" brush!!!

No need to ask about the rubber room. It's full of over-aged adolescents discussing pot smoking and womens boobs.
