Oil change for a Prochem 405 Performer, what type of oil?

Doing an oil change for my Prochem 405. What's the correct type of oil to use? I've heard to many variations and want to know the exact type of oil to use. Can someone please tell me?

I use 10w30 oil from the auto parts store in the winter and 5w30 in the warmer months.

My Prochem 800A with a similar Nissan engine was still humming nicely at 8200 hours...I used Castrol Syntec 5-50 on a 100 hour oil and filter change schedule.

I thought the 10w30 was the lighter weight oil?

I think it has to do with the number in between the two and the higher the number the thicker it is... Thats how it was explained to me. Middle number would be 10-30=20 and the 5-30=17.5... or 5-w20 would be 12.5. I might be off here but it seems to work.
