    Noice!

What did he use? I had a shipmate in Alaska who swore he could catch salmon with anything red. One of handed him a toothbrush, he tied a hook to it and walked out the back door.

Half an hour later he was back, triumphantly waving a salmon about that size.

Don't ask if it was legal.

why the hell he kill it?
    Brown's taste like sheeit
and that's a male, so no eggs to harvest to use as bait

I had a chance at an 18 pounder in '01 fishing Elk Creek in Pa
It was in the deep cut/run of a large pool with a couple dozen or so Steelhead .
His position in the deep cut (right at the front with fast water rushing over the top) made it impossible to drop a fly in front of him. (try as I may)
I didn't feel inclined to put 2 ounces of weight on to bomb and snag him (not the way I roll)
and he wasn't moving his nose from the front of the cut

so I gave up and spanked the Steelies instead

How do I know it was 18#?
someone caught it the next day fishing that pool
and was in the fishing/sport news (that's a HUGE Brown and big news ) close to the state record of 19 pounds that was caught in '00 on Walnut creek (10 miles east of Elk)

Small browns taste good. Three to five pounders.
