OLDDUFFY's real name is Richard Jennings. He recently lost his CD franchise due to cancer. He is 62 and was a franchisee since '89. I became acquainted with him when he was selling his CD Charlie suit on ebay.

I will let him tell his story, but basically, he got nothing for his franchise, had a lot of trouble selling his equipment due to CD regulations. Got stuck with a lot of chemical he couldn't sell and HRI won't buy back and now is in real trouble financially.

He and his wife both have serious medical conditions requiring them to drive over 100 miles to see their doctors, so he sold his van and bought a used PU truck to make the frequent trips to the doctor. It seems whoever had the truck before ran bio-diesel in it, and now the injectors are messed up and he is facing a $1,500+ bill for repairs which he doesn't have.

Does anyone here have experience with diesels and injector systems who could maybe help him out with instructions on how to fix himself? Maybe a mechanically savy individual who lives nearby could give him a hand?

Richard has a tough time on the phone because he speaks through an electronic voicebox and breathes through a hole in his throat, so it is very hard for people to understand him on the phone.

He asked HRI for some help, or at least for them to buy back his unused chems and equipment, but they refused and just took his franchise back with no compensation. I told him to register here and tell his story. We have a few CD franchisees that may be able to use some of his stuff, and a lot of great people who might be able to help him financially or with mechanical advice as he goes through this crisis in his life.

If anyone would like to send something to help, his PayPal address is: jenningswi@hotmail.com

That is also his email if anyone has any advice on getting his truck running again.

This scenario happens far too often in our industry, not just to franchisees, but to owner/ops as well. As we consider such things as a National Association, we need to focus on issues like health and disability insurance and retirement planning. I think very few of us, myself included, have properly prepared for catastrophic illness, injury, natural disasters or even retirement.

Welcome Richard, I hope you get some help and find some camraderie and emotional support on this board and most especially I hope your health improves.

Take care,
Lisa

Wow,
Welcome and good luck.
As a former owner of a Chem-Dry, I can feel a very small part of your pain.
Love to hear your story.

Yes, I'm sure he does. He is having a tough time learning how to post on the BB, so I'm trying to walk him through the process.

Take care,
Lisa

Do you know where his doctor is located? I have relatives scattered throughout Cheesetown, depending on where, I might be able to hook him up with connections around one of their towns.

Welcome.

I'm sure every one here would like to hear your story. Can you sell CD chems on ebay?

And Lisa, you're a class act.

Re: HI I'M OLDDUFFY JUST A LITTLE ABOUT US

:p Hi I Have Been in carpet cleaning for many years since 1989 till 3 years ago when my first operation for Throught cancer happened. they didn't get it all that time so they operated again this time they took all out and now i breath out of a hole in my neck . And have to talk with a vibrator all this wouldn't be to bad Except i cannot work anymore and my wifes health is shot also she just had a shunt put into her heart 3 days ago . Beware Peeps i thought i had all set insurance wise and health wise well NOT SO after second operation ins went away and now living on disability which isn't much about 1200month for me and 300 month for my wife it pays some bills but not all so make shure you have something setup in case your health goes i felt infallible i was never sick maybe a cold once in awhile so when it happened it was big ! and to both of us at about the same time thats the bad part !!when i had my second surgery i got ahold of my voice of chem dry rep for area 9 and asked for some help if he could let everyone know i had chems for sale and equipment and if anyone would like to give 5 .00 or so to help with my disconnect notices for the utilities that it would be appreciated WELL He told me that he wouldn't do that BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT TO SET A PRECEDENT By HELPING ME HE SAID WHERE WOULD IT STOP !!so he said no that he couldn't let the other franchises in our area know about me and ask if they wanted to buy anything or maybe donate 5.00 or so whatever they felt they could afford it would of been totally up to them if they wanted to or not BUT HE SAID NO IT WOULD BE Setting a bad precedent God those words still ring in my ears I'm 62 years old and come from the old school way of thinking if a barn burnt down we would help rebuild it that kind of thinking . Enough about my shock . then when i went out of chem dry i packed all my chemicals that i had left up and called to get a shipping label well DeeAnn Told me that they would not be buying back the chemicals so i was out that money also they did work with me on my franchisee fees though for awhile while i was sick . 1 person told me they would buy it back and then the other told me no not at all so i still have some items left . then i have to go to the doctor all the time my wife and i both so i sold my chem dry van that got about 13 or so miles to the gallon and the doctors trip is 100 miles round trip so about 45.00 for fuel to the doctors .I Bought a ISUZU pup pickup ill enclose picture it has a 2.2L diesel engine which gets about 45 to 50 miles to the gallon so only 10.00 to 12.00 for a doctors trip which is more affordable on disability well the owner told me they ran bio diesel in the truck they did alright it caked up the fuel tank and when it got hot out the black goop flowed past 3 filters and clogged up the injection pump and injectors i cleaned the fuel tank got it starkly like new but could not get all out of the injection pump so the guy at diesel specialists green bay WI said it would cost 900 to 1000.00 to Rebuild the injection pump and injectors and the mechanic i use said it would be about 450.00 to500.00 to take it out and replace the pump and injectors it is a big job they have to remove the front of the engine and timing belt is what drives the pump and them re-timing everything . anyways i definitely do not have that money sitting here ! TRUCK MOUNT girl has been real wonderful i listed my Charlie suit for sale when i got disconnect notices for mu utility's so the money i got for the suit will save my electricity thanks to Lisa and SHE Donated some money through pay-pale for to help me with the truck repairs Gosh i don't know what to say she is wonderful a very good and caring person GOD will look over her and take care of her !I will wright more later about me but on the lighter side !!!Thank you for listening ! AND LISA THANK YOU !!!!!!

Richard, I can easily sympathise with you, I'm 63 +, & in two days time, my second eldest brother who is 73 goes back south to have more treatment for his throat cancer.

He had been in remission for nearly ten years since the last episode.

He will be away for between two & three months.

With stories like yours, it is so easy to see why these scumbags are hated by carpet cleaners world wide.

I don't mean the franchisees, they are generally pretty decent blokes.

I mean the upper echelon.

I hope all goes well for you and your wife mate and that something good comes from your posting.

I hope you don't mind, I have taken the liberty of resizing your pics.

Take care young fella.

Shorty down under.

Like I had said before. Good luck to you.

I will be looking into better health insurance and will post my findings in the bird room. I know a great insurance guy but have only used him for business and vehicle and home ins.

Do you think the cancer was related to your profession in any way?
I was around Chem-Dry for 20 years...since I as about 5 i guess.

I will do what I can to help.

Richard, I'll post your items on the CD board when you send me the list. I may be in need of a few things myself.

Duffy,

Is there any way you can post a picture of the glide end of the tool on this machine? We are interested in seeing it. If you could, that would be great.

Thanks!

There's no patent on this one. Just a regular kleenrite.

Yes the only thing is it says Chem Dry kleenright makes the machine for the general publick it retails for 4000.00 now so the only thing registered is the wording which Blue paint can cover it is only on the 1 cover this machine has been sitting like i said there isnot anything wrong with it that i know of it got the new heaters and i glued the plastic crack where the hose connects wasnot worth buying a new piece all parts are available for this machine through kleenrite

Actually ,Albert, that tool was patented in the early 80's and thus is obvious prior art that Chemdry should be aware of since their name is on it.

Are you referring to the extractor or the wand John. Not sure Kleenrite would care if they had their name on it. Shit they sell them bunch of stuff, wouldn't that just be private labeling?.
