Two books:

Learned Optimism by Martin Seligman

Mans Search for Meaning Viktor Frankl

While Seligman is a learned doctor and has studied the field I always fall back on Frankl. He survived the concentration camp in Germany. His entire family wife, children, parents, siblings perished. He believes that he survived only due to luck and his attitude. I believe his quote sums up how we should live life.

"Everything can be taken from a man but ...the last of the human freedoms - to choose
one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."

Re: Positive Attitude

I can't control my positive attitude,it's just part of who I am. It's to the bone.

Can you get it from reading a book? I would have guessed,no.
I would think it's something you're either born with or not.
No?

Re: Positive Attitude

I would agree with that, some people just look at things differently

Re: Positive Attitude

I always have a positive attitude.

I learned as a kid, who frequented a local donut shop, with their motto on their back wall, which I have always remembered-

"As you wander on through life, brother,
As you go towards your goal,
Keep your eye upon the donut,
And not upon the hole."

Words to live by.

If you say you "Can" or say you "Can't" either way you are right.
You have to power to change the way you think...you just have to do it.
You are in control of your own thoughts and feelings.
Your positive attitude only helps you, not anyone else.
So you would want to have a positive outlook on life.

I have a permanent,unchangeable positive attitude,it's just that way. That's what I mean by "can't control it".
If I got hit by a truck,I would probably have something positive to say about it,like "Well, at least it wasn't an airplane".
Sometimes it drives my wife crazy.
