I have to go look at a job tomorrow with apparently several areas containing residue from velcro that was used to hold gym mats down on some commercial carpet. Solvent?

On short notice grab some GooGone Pro adhesive solvent from Homer Depot.

If you don't have a 175 or Oreck, which would help, grab some green scrubby pads and your knee pads.

Dwell/scrub/rinse/repeat as needed.

After the adhesive is gone, scrub in some stiff prespray and rinse good to remove any OJ solvent residue.

Not too difficult, but may be tedious depending on how much there is so charge accordingly.

That's what's great about this board the first answer is usually correct.

One thing to add. From my experience it makes a difference if the carpet is Olefin or Nylon.
Delimonene, though very good at dissolving certain glues, bonds pretty strongly with Olefin and needs a hack of a rinse which is not always successful. In that case some non residual solvents (like OMS) may require less rinsing and reduce the chance of a return visit.
