So I've always used a 3/8" solution line with 1/4" qds (and sometimes 1/4" lead hose). But I don't really know why. Just what I've always used through the years since I started cleaning with a TM. I assume it's to help maintain temperature, but don't really know. Anyway, I need to replace some older sections of hoses that are wearing out and just started thinking about it. Is maintaining temp the reason for doing this?

Two manufacturers used 3/8" hose to deal with efficiency issues.

Bane did it to squeeze more efficient use of the electrical power. Smaller diameter hose takes more power to push through a given flow.

SteamWay also wanted to maximize efficiency to allow adding electric generation for kerosene burner ignition.

It helped the heat in both machines.

What type of machine and heat source do you have? How are you on the trigger?

I've read from the old-timers that you just need to bump up the psi 100 more and you'll be fine.. No need to drag that 3/8 line around

The 3/8 is heavy but one of the advantages is because there is more water in the hose, it doesn't cool off as fast. I still use a 50 ft 3/8 as my lead hose.
