I honestly could not tell you the last time I missed work because I was sick.

I have been ill but for some reason it falls on the weekend or, while work is slow.

Like Yesterday. I woke up feeling real sick. Alex was not so hot either. So we went to the clinic.

We both had Strep throat.

Well today all my work was vacant. 2 homes, had keys for both. So I did not have to worry about coming in contact with anyone.

I've been doing this for over 16 years, and can only thing of a few times I had to delay work because I was sick, but has not happened in the last 7 years that I can think of.

What do ya do? Ya wake up. Sicker than a dog. No way you can work. 1st client is due to see you in 2 hours?

I'm assuming this question is directed at the one man shows.

Well, in order to be busy , you are probably well established.

Hopefully you've learned a few things over those years and aren't just repeating the same modus operandi year in year out. So I would also assume you are making great money per hour and have a great reputation where the homeowner wants only you anyways.

I would also assume because you are esablished that you have low overhead and your kids aren't depending on that morning job to eat that evening so just reschedule and move on. Whats a few hundred bucks?

or get a helper with a drivers license, get more work and have a plan in place in case you aren't as lucky as you have been moving forward.

Its good to have an employee, but there has been times I had to suck it up. I don't cancel unless I am going to die.

Yes owner/op.

I'm not talking about lost $$.

I talking about the client that moved all her crap for you.

Then you call. Umm I'm sick can't make it.

I'd hope a day or even a week off is not gunna break ya.

No employee for me. So I'm pretty much like Adam right now.

I've worked not feeling so hot.

yea, thats the tough part, disappointing the customer when they have prepped.

Your health is foremost tho, we'll never be old wishing we squeezed in a few more jobs

That was my point Fred.

What do ya do about the client.

We have all gotten the calls.

I am ready to have my carpets cleaned, but my cleaner said he can't make it.

I'm more worried about the client who got ready, than the lost wage.

Must be a mental thing. My brain tells my body to hold off till the weekend to get sick.

i'd do that, or apologize profusely and offer 50% discount for putting them out...depends on their reaction really.

If they absolutely could not wait due to an event or selling the home then refer them to a trusted cleaner.

You do know one right Becker?

Not many.

LOL.. Problem is all the guys I know are much like myself. Single van guys booked out.

I've not had the problem in a long time, but I come across someone needing it done yesterday, so I drop a few names of local guys to call.

As a single O/O myself, in the last 10 years, I had maybe one day a year off, sick.

When that arises, I call a local cleaner friend to take over. I have several who fall in this category, so if one cannot handle, another one can.
