Scotchgard (tm) and Teflon (tm) are different products. Scotchgard (tm) is labeled as an upholstery protector, but Teflon (tm) is not.
Tests that I have done with Scotchgard (tm) versus a water based upholstery fluorochemical (Maxim Advanced for Upholstery) and a solvent based fluorochemical (Ultraseal by Cobb Supply) showed that both Maxim for Upholstery and Ultraseal outperformed Scotchgard (tm) on natural fiber upholstery fabrics, but Scotchgard (tm) did offer some protection. Scotchgard (tm) did perform very well on synthetic fiber fabrics, as it does on synthetic fiber carpet.
