When I started in this industry, I got my iirc certification , equipment and just went at it. Never worked for another carpet cleaning company.
So I'm not sure what most carpet cleaning companies are doing with regards to Pre vacuuming. I hear a lot of guys on here saying they are doing 4-5 jobs a day. I always pre vacuumed including all the corners and makes a huge difference. But in order for me to be doing that kind of volume there is no way for me to do it if I have to Pre vac every single job.
So I ask, how many of you are asking the homeowner to make sure the house is prepped and pre vacuumed before you get there?

Residential jobs- Your Helper brings in equipment and is doing the pre vac almost as soon as you arrive. You are telling the Customer about your services and asking if she would like to know about additional services like upholstery cleaning, tile cleaning and especially, because it has the highest profit margin, the fabric protection you offer. A good helper, moving hoses, furniture, putting things away as the job winds down will speed up the job without you needing to work faster... just more efficient. By doing this you will do one less job a day but your profit will double.
This is my experience anyway.

I do ask the customers to prevac and when I get there it becomes a judgement call whether to prevac or not. I have all my bldg mgr.s trained to pre vac empty suites BEFORE I get there. Most commercial jobs are prevacced

I bet, if there was any way to know for sure, there's less than 10 of us here who really vacuum.
Our Residential Clients would have called someone else if I had asked them to vacuum... feel like I have a better vacuum and that's part of the dance we do to bring value to our service...talking about us here.
The Chinese Restaurants and that type of work on the other hand, were suppose to have it all pre-vacuumed. There would have been an extra charge if I had to do it...but they always did it. Free meal coupons for the Helper too...only way to get them out at 10 at night to start a job besides cash. $
So maybe it depends on where you live or regular people vs wealthy people and other factors... Maybe this will change when I start up a new company in DFW... but I doubt it. Pre vacuum is good marketing in my opinion.

Actually, many of my clients ask me if they should pre vacuum. I always say yes, every little bit helps. the majority of my customers are middle class with nice homes and families. Unless you are using a high end commercial vacuum, your vacuum probably is not any better than theirs and in fact, if you are prevacuuming every job, your vacuum may be a worn out pos and if it is not hepa filtered, you are cross contaminating many homes with the spores, dander, dust mite fecal matter and whatever you have picked up in your vacuum. I have one client who will not let me bring my vacuum into his home and makes me wash my wand before I use it. (used to have a girlfriend like that)

might as well ask them to do the wanding too...

One you become one of the MB Elite you'll charge enough to only have or want to do 2 to 3 a day at best.
To be honest I average about 2-3 jobs a day right now and I'm by myself. I do prevac and prep everything properly. Spend about an hour on each home vacuuming, covering floors, putting up corner guards etc etc. And I'm not charging hack prices. I'm in the middle of the reputable carpet cleaning pack in my area.

When customers call and ask if they should vacuum I always say that I will vacuum but if you would like to do a quick vacuum that it would be a good idea cause we want to get as much particulate out as posibble. My vacuum is HEPA filtered and I take great care of it. If the carpets are urine soaked or trashed I have a second vacuum on board to use.

Bob I think If you have your helper setting up the job and vacuuming the customer is 1/2 focused or 100% focused on them and not on your sales presentation. We do our walk through and measuring with both men and then the helper goes outside and unloads as much as possible up to the front door while the lead tech does the pricing and protector sales with the helper outside.

And there ya go..............you don't EVER vacuum over carpets with piss stain evident. You contaminate your vacuum...........spewing bacterias and viruses thru out the house. VERY unsanitary.

But of course you IDIOTS who have glides..............must vacuum....other wise your precious glides CLOG up.
And if your prevac you are doing twice as many movements .............wearing out your girly mans shoulders.

Big blowered machines that can pick up the carpet from excessive vacuum running with a typical 100 feet of hose.............who needs to prevac?

IDIOTS GALORE!

MARTY IS ONE OF THOSE IGNERT MF's!
