How are some of you owner operators and the like getting health insurance? Obamacare, wife’s job? Or paying for it yourself? If so, who’s the provider?

Blue cross up the ass and around as many corners as there are in there.

Something like 878 a month and I’ve never been admitted to a hospital, only broke 2 bones in my whole life, don’t smoke, don’t drink, don’t do drugs.

Almost want to save the upteen thousands a year in a saving account and just use it if something goes south.

I paid for mine by 33 years of drinking government coffee.

There actually are very good cost sharing programs out there like Medishare, Samaritan Ministries and others. Coupled with a lower cost catastrophic policy, you can be well covered at reasonable cost.

Medi-Care and Aetna supplement😀 Took it up the bung hole from Blue Cross for years. There’s not many that don’t pay for themselves one way or another. My last premium $1600 for the 2 of us. Now I put that toward my house and shop.

In Canada, the majority of our Medicare is covered by our income taxes with some times a modest premium applied in certain provinces. I still have additional blue cross for dental, drugs and other coverage. I wonder if it all balances out compared to your taxes.

Christian healthcare ministries, $450/ month for the family with a $500/per incident deductible. Only used them for my youngest getting his tonsils out, but they paid 100%, that was like 11 grand. Doctors appts and stuff we pay out of pocket.

I hope you don’t need anything that’s serious with the VA. I have a friend who has been trying to get a knee replacement for 2 yrs. it’s happening this week.
I signed up to satisify Obama. Been using it but have another Dr. I pay cash to see. So far been lucky with my health.

Right now the railroad pays for mine, but I'm not sure what we'll do if I ever get big enough to quit there. I think we are going to see some changes in healthcare during Trump's term.

Don’t count on it and don’t quit the railroad

The state of US Healthcare is a runaway train
I've been trying to set my self up for retirement by trying to max my 401k out every year and working as much as I can. I've got 11 years in and 23 to go to get full retirement at 60. But it takes a toll on your family being gone all the time and missing holidays, birthdays, etc. My friend who also worked for the rail just died at the age of 45. So I gotta ask myself is it worth it? We started this cleaning company so my wife could quit being an occupational therapist, and have her own schedule for the kids. Carpet cleaning just seemed like a good add on. We work really well together and would love to spend my time working with her every day. But there is that dreaded insurance that keeps me plugging away. It's kinda scary to think of a medical emergency bankrupting your family.

And it probably would too. We you've got nothing they can't take anything. But when you have it, you need to protect it.

Gotcha

When I hear railway I think of our Amtrak MBTA system here in Boston

Great Union jobs that are pretty much 8 hour shifts plus overtime

It’s tough to make the jump , I started as a kid in my parents home at 23 years old so I had nothing to lose

We're union but we haul mostly freight and it's usually 40 hour round trip from when I leave home.

our business has grown enough that my wife doesn't need to work. However, she does work so we can have medical and a retirement plan for her. She is an accountant. She was an accountant at a large hospital here but was able to quit and become a business teacher at a local high school. Medical costs us about $850 per month but its really good. I think our deductible is $500. She has a state retirement. She left the hospital because, like I said, she doesnt need to work and now she has summers off along with breaks during the holidays. She took a huge pay cut to take the teaching job., but we have made that up with business growth.
This industry has been really good to us.

I used to have Anthem. But Blue Cross pulled out of Indiana shortly after the ACA. I have a HDHP through the market place with an HSA. I pay less than $300 a month. For really healthy and really unhealthy people the high deductible plan is the way to go.

Obummer care. Got a $1500 a month plan for $98 a month with my gubmint handout for the 3 of us. $7000 deductible, $35 office visits and prescription coverage. Rates in N.C. actually dropped this year and it's the first time since the ACA was passed that I have a decent plan.
