Since service ads are no longer free (5$), I think many things have changed, at least in my market.
It has definitely weeded out all the bottom feeders, bait-n-switchers, and all the Chavez's with no credit cards, and cut out all the spammy repetitive ads.
My lead quality and number of leads has definitely improved since the change.
Love'em or hate'em, they are still a big player, especially in major areas.
Anyone hungry for growth who had previously dismissed CraigList may want to take a fresh look at it, try a few new paid ads, and re-evaluate them.
