First time in about 15 years that it is not at our house. Down at the kids (Aron and Jena)

We will go help cook.

I will be working on purging the shop more.

Preparing to be gone from here about 3.5 months to my southern office.

The rest of the family is in charge (to a point) while I'm on the road.

Depends on who is in the kitchen. Our CBs are pretty good. The one in Murray is over 20 miles from the nearest interstate.

I will take any excuse to get together with family, with no apologies. If it happens to be somebody's holiday, more power to them.

May you age gracefully...

Unless you were or still smoking. Your gonna look like leathery wrinkly prune with COPD looking like 100 yrs old when you're only 58 yrs losing your taste buds years ago... Not so graceful after all.

Just having a simple family Thanksgiving at at our house.
Just want to say 'Thanks' for this board and all the contributors, site keepers, and the big guy himself Mikey.
Lots of good conversation, info, and experience to learn from.

I'm deep frying a turkey and also making one in the oven. I invited my homeless dad. It will be the first time in 15 years we had T-giving together.

Why is he homeless?
His house burned down in the Paradise Fire.

I was reminded of one thing I left out:

Every year, I ask Carol to not drop a political or religious "bomb" over dinner.

She has one sister who is a professor at a university and is liberal and an atheist, another sister who is deeply religious and believes women shouldn't work, a brother who is a vegan from Santa Cruz (of all places...), and another brother who is a conservative small business owner who loves hunting.

They always try to have a truce for the sake of their mother, who is the ruling matriarch of the family.

But then, invariably, Carol gets this smile on her face and deliberately brings up the whatever is the most incendiary issue of the day. Then she sits back and laughs....

Me? I'd rather enjoy the meal, but she sees it as "dinner and a show".

Funny I can relate.....I could video some Hannity....I turn it on jus as we sit to eat.....

She sounds like me. I like to play this game where I get certain family members ranting and raving about politics on both sides of the spectrum. Just as they think they've won, I throw a stick in their tire and point out their hypocrisy and watch them blubber through contradicting everything they just said. Then watch both sides argue and eventually go outside unnoticed, jump on my 4 wheeler, and rip through the freshly harvested field to the woods out back of my grandparents property looking for corn snakes, deer, and coyote.

Women can't cook these days so I do all of the cooking.
But I cook what I want!

Big FAIL in our society when mothers couldn't teach their daughters HOW to cook. I tell my sons that women are like a new car. At first it's all new and shiny and people admire you at stop lights. But after 6 months the luster wears off..................especially if they can't COOK. So I tell them first priority is find one that can...................COOK.
