Back in the Tea Tree era, Encap-Clean DS would cause some people to cough if they sprayed the product. But like Chavez said, using a more coarse spray tip / or shower-feeding alleviated that. Moving forward, we ditched the Tea Tree and renamed that product Encap-Clean DS2. Yet some people like Mikey missed the Tea Tree and wanted their original classic Releasit encap shampoo - so we brought the orginal formula back as Encap-1 DS. So we now have two versions that perform similarly... the original unchanged formula = Encap-1, and also a product that's had some revisions along the way and a new scent = Encap-Clean DS2.

So, you're saying that Releasit is the same as Bridgepoints DS2?

It's just one more example of us being copied by our competition.

Our very first product Encap-Clean mixed at 8 oz per gallon. I came up with the idea of doubling all the raw ingredients so that we could offer a "double strength" version. So Encap-Clean DS became the identifier we came up with to describe the new product. Later on, when we modified Encap-Clean DS / we renamed it Encap-Clean DS2.

Here are a few firsts we came up with - that have found their way into the industry... I was the first in our industry to use the word "encapsulation" to describe this type of cleaning. The first to recommend using modified buffing pads to scrub carpet. The first to to use the word "Fiber" in the naming of this type of carpet cleaning pad. The first to come up with an encap pre-spray. The first to come up with an encap hydrogen peroxide product. The first to use DS in a name, and later DS2. The first to use the word Release as part of our brand name (yep that's been copied too).

Really is kind of flattering to see how the industry watches and copies what we're doing. LOL

We all stand on the shoulders of someone else. My team has come up many innovations outside encapsulation. The hidden part of any team is our vendors who developed the raw materials that we make all of our products. All of us rely on their expertise and some of us even adopt their standard formulas. Joe Domin developed most of the product benchmarks in our industry. The industry benefitted greatly from having a high standard to match. I was happy in the early years whenever we matched that standard. Releasit products were the first application of polymers in this industry, (there 2 primary vendors of encapsulating raw materials), but there have been many other products developed over 15 years that are comparable in terms of performance probably based on the limited sources. We probably would be surprised to find out that many products in the industry may use a lot of the same raws. A "remote" difference could be less than 5% in the concentrate resulting in a 0.15% difference in ready to use. That type of difference is rarely seen in lab testing let alone field testing.

It is naive to think that any successful product developed in this industry is not matched in performance over time. There are a lot of good products in our industry and we hope that a lot of them are Bridgepoint. Our position in the marketplace tells me that we have generally been successful and we have pushed the industry forward as others learned from we have done. This is the appropriate cycle of product development. Competition brings out the best in all of us.

A healthy dose of a lot of testing, albeit some field and a lot of lab testing, has hopefully helped me be more humble about any products we have developed. The industry would benefit from less hyperbole and the more testing that is done will place more chemical in proper perspective.

Meow, Cat Fight!!!

hold my beer , watch this

scrub 'n run encRap shampoo
what a scummy method .

It was a scummy way to clean in 1960 and no less scummy today .
non stick scum in a bucket notwithstanding.

and the only thing "vac'd out" in days following are the shredded VCT pad fibers you leave behind

Make a million off of it, well and good.
but it's still a scum slurry driven to the backing

"matched" / could also use words like ... copied, imitated, knocked off
I think you're entirely correct saying it's "naive" to think that's not what happens in this industry
What proceeded your original formula? Sodium laurel sulfate used in shampoos was one predecessor and was the reason for the affectionate term "scampoo" We re-formulated our Fabric Shampoo by combining sodium laurel sulfate with a few of our encapsulated polymers so they are closely connected.. Didn't a chemist introduce you to encap in the beginning as the formula was not your creation alone, correct? How many shoulders have you stood upon?

You did introduce the industry to low moisture encapsulation cleaning. You were beat up for years and persevered. The industry including myself congratulate you for this work. Many have built upon your ideas and we do not want to take away from you.

If our formulas are as different as you say they are, then what did we copy, imitate or knock off? Which of your patents did we violate? Our formulas were helped along by our vendor's chemist(there is a great chance we have the same vendor), which is the reason to reference team.

We use 7 different encapsulating polymers for our encapsulation line up and in many other formulas to limit re-soiling. We built upon your success and expanded encapsulation into other chemical areas. Any product approved by CRI had to use these type of polymers to pass the rigorous chemical re-soil standards. This includes spotters, extraction pre-sprays, deodorizers, etc.

This, however, is the story of our industry and America. We can not take credit for ideas that are stimulated by our idea. For example, if I see a product and can improve it by buying a better raw, then is this a copy or progress? Our product line is extensive and we know that we are the benchmark for some product types. This is a great compliment and the industry benefits with better cleaning. The industry has progressed and we all have been a part of it. Encapsulation is here to stay, so Rick you are one of the pioneers, thank you.

I was raised Presbyterian so the top of my head was wet with water and I have been a member of many evangelical organizations so I was baptized fully with water when i became an adult. There is a similarity with head sprinkling and dunking fully in water with film forming and crystalizing from my perspective, they both do the job.

Copying formula concepts is one thing - naming products to mirror a competitor's product name takes it a step further.
This duscussion started with a question about EncapuClean DS. It's clear where Bridgepoint copied that from.
