Its my wifes primary car for haulling all the kids around to their activities. We need the room. Has almost 200,000 miles on it. Still in good shape. I dont want a car payment. Should I have the engine rebuilt ? Thing is using a ton of oil. What should I do? Not doing the work myself.

Add a quart of Lucas oil treatment to slow consumption until you can get some mechanical work done.

Waldo;

Try a thicker straight weight oil.

Depending on your cold weather conditions,

I would try using a 40W motor oil to see if that helps with consumption.

Larry

P.S. I also need to send you a quart of our POG
(it will remove paint) :icon_rolleyes:

She likes her Tahoe. Dont know how much safer another Tahoe would be. Because thats what we would get.

I would have someone open it up and look at the rings on the pistons. Rings maybe worn out and won't pull oil and just burn it.

It could be a lot cheaper to fix that engine, compare to replacing

As Vince said...pretty damn common
Go to Sam's Club and buy a case of the least expensive 5-30 oil and add a qt every week .
keep a couple qt's in the vehicle if you take any road trips over a couple hunnert miles

Forget about the straight 40wt:oldrolleyes:...it's winter time for crying out loud...DUMB idea
Larry may not realize not everyone lives in hell hole like he does
there ain' no excuse for Bob:redface:

2001 compared to 2010

Driver went from 3 stars to 5
Passenger went from 4-5

rool over went from 2-4

So over all I'd say much safer.

But really Waldo, I'm just giving you shit.
