Newsflash Buttercup- I've been out of the discount carpet cleaning business for over 2 years. Back in the heyday we too were grossing a little over 12 mil a year. Didn't need 200 subs to do it. You closed for other reasons than a conscience. You didn't just wake up one day and say - " hey - i make 1.2-1.8 mil a year personal net I think I'm going to shut down"..... Makes a great story by saying that but I will call bullshit.....
I closed because digital media nullified print ( which I had millions in contracts I couldn't get out of). Was extremely happy to be out of the rat race.
About a year ago I opened and quickly sold a high end carpet cleaning company. I have since opened another small one ( mid end - deep clean included) Different marketing strategy. high net profit..... I'll let you know how it does.
