I use an older van that used to be a wheelchair transport. The Braun wheelchair lift lets me get my equipment in and out easily and safely.
One thing I have dealt with is that the lift is supposed to fold out to use and fold up to store, using an hydraulic actuator. On my van it is missing, so I have been pulling it out and lifting it by hand. Once pulled out, the lift uses another actuator to raise and lower the load. That one works fine.
I have called company after company to locate a new "fold out" actuator, but nobody seems to know how to get one. In frustration I actually rigged a couple of garage door springs to lighten the weight of the lift.
Mrs. Coastie tried to push the lift up, asked me how in blazes I'd been doing it and ordered me to find the right part "or else."
I finally found Cummings Mobility in Albertville, MN. A five minute chat with Mr. Calvin Cummings and he had the part, sent me a picture and we completed the order. It was not cheap, but in line with other similar actuators.
If you have a Braun lift, I recommend trying these guys out

If not, the takeaway is to persist until you find someone knowledgeable and eager. Be that guy when someone calls you.
That's all.
