This may sound like a stupid question and definately puts me out of the category of DIY - But what exactly makes something an industrial engine? A frame around it?

industrial use engines usually have a stand alone control system to run the fuel and ignition. As well as provisions for mounting to a frame, if it doesnt already come mounted on a frame.
they usually have a sae style bellhousing or something to allow a stub shaft or engagement clutch to mount on it.

I've heard of a VW engine used in a TM.

Doesn't Suberoo (SP) make a horizontally opposed engine like VW?

I wish I would have had an Old VW Diesel Eng to use, instead of my Mercedes... its just too big.

I don't like the pulley I have bolted to the fly-wheel, anyone know where I can get a "Stub shaft" to bolt to the flywheel?

check with a good machine shop they should be able to build one. You may need to incorporate a pillowblock/bearing retainer device as your motor may not like a side load on the rear of the crank.

I always thought that a Honda "Valkarie" 6 cyl bike engine would make a good TM engine. I'd like to find a wrecked one.
