I rescued a fellow off roader late yesterday. His SXS batter petered out deep in the out back.


As a thanks he bought me dinner on the way home.

Turns out he works for Old Dominion Trucking, runs a local route all over downtown Reno. His new Big Rig on the other hand has a night job.



Bj and the Bear get his shared rig 5 nights a week and drives down to Lone Pine Ca to meet another trucker who brings up a couple trailers from LA, they both swap boxes and head back to their respected home bases..

In the winter BJ takes the grey route to avoid chaining up...

imagine doing this 5 nights a week in the dark....


BJ makes 100k a year which is "killing it" according to my guy

or the trucking industry wouldn't be so desperate for drivers

without at least 5 years experience to hire on with the better outfits, you'll be dragging wagons at lower rates and might get home one weekend a month

I use to drive 200 miles round trip and work 9 to 12 hours.

Didn't mind the first couple years but it wore on me.

I love driving. Almost 40k miles this year alone. Road trips are my favorite. I like seeing country though, and most of the interstates on the west coast are borring.
If I lived in the right area and didnt have type 1 diabetes I would have a hot shot trucking buisness. Hauling rvs, trailers, motorcycles, ect...

sleep in a box and pee on the ground as a friend told me one day.
did it for 20 plus yrs dont miss it a bit
did make a good living though.
its not cracked up to what ya think it is for sure must have thick skin and unlimited patience.

I don't mind driving .
and can drive anything with wheels or tracks
Like to travel and see the country too

but seeing it out the window 9 hours a day and shooing lot lizards away ain't my bag..

ive been deaf since i was 15 mos old. i am used to it. I work out with no music and clean carpets with no music like so many cleaners can. Just part of life.
