A fellow jus brought a machine in for repair.......he jus bought it and it didn't work!
Holy Mary Mother of God what an abortion.......20HP Onan wit straight drive (no clutch anywhere) NO HX at all......(hot tap water) The pressure gauge has peaked and the chemical draw was in shambles and mostly non-existent!
It has twin 33's on it(i think) And he sED that it was sold as a Steam Genie made by Bob Vawter.........

I guess i am now famous!

I bought one in 1974 when I lived in Arkansas, had it shipped from CA. Had extension legs with wheels and ran on propane, heater and engine. I used it as a portable and took it into large department stores to clean carpet over the week ends. Great machine, ran it for 11 years and then sold it to another cleaner in FL who used it for years.

It was tough to clean out the filter since you had to take a plate off with a lot of bolts to it. Also, the tank was steel and rusted holes which I have patched several times and it just kept on going.

sounds like my first TM

Onan 20HP, twin 33s, Little Giant 4HT, that big Warner 10GPM diaphragm pump
Hydrogenie I "think" they called it

the water tank rusted out long before i bought it and the Onan burned a qt of oil a week and cooked ignition points pretty regular, but for a tired worn out TM, she kept on chuggin' pretty good.

Oh yea, like many (most) Onans, the stator was bad.
and like many Onan engine owners, they freak when they hear the $800 dollar price tag for a new stator, so they figure plugging the battery charger in at night is much more cost effective alternative.

'least I did....

I had 4 of those pos's and they all had Polmana(sp) hot water heaters that were a nightmare.

I was drinking the koolaid for Steam Genie though ,and sold about 6 here in atlanta as a dealer. All 6 of those guys gave me the finger for years over that. Two of em use to go around and say bad things about me, till I sent uncle Ned over to take em rafting.

So far the belts are completly wrong...one small "a" belt driving everything......it needs TWO "b' belts and one "a" belt!
And that's jus to start......the guage has pegged so i'm thinking that the Hydra-Cell may be toast as well.......that's jus a simple re-build!
He liks my Genie 47 on the bench...i think he'll buy it!

you know....the brand NEW one!
