122175-00 is their "standard" 8.4 motor.

122176-18 is the latest one that has the additional thermal shut-down protection AND sealed bearings to protect from water/moisture.

General consensus is to go with the 122176-18 mainly because of the sealed bearings, assuming your compartment ventilation is adequate enough to not trigger the thermal shut-down.

.............or total fooking melt-down.......Holy chit.

What are you planning on doing with then Willy?

Aside from a booster, a unit already built around twin 8.4's, or a completely custom machine, it appears nobody has yet been able to "upgrade" an existing units with them due to space limitations, power requirements, and the need for a specially designed manifold of some sort.

Supposedly kick ass motors otherwise capable of well over 2000 hours.

That meltdown was after an idiot mechanic caught my van on fire using a torch.I found out a lot about insurance that day.:frown: That little old ninja had awesome power! The 8.4's are going into an older Steamway 900 that has 3 two stage motors and a big ass cat pump. And you're absolutely right about the custom manifold. Thanks to Ron "Cleanworks" Marriot, I was shown the light on how much better the vacuum is with that and introduced to his mad scientist metal fabricator that built one for another machine I'm using now. With two 5.7's it sucks like mad so I can only imagine how much better it will be with the bigger vacs.
In the People's Republic of Canuckistan I have to special order the vacs in with a 6 week lead time from the supplier as they aren't really on the market here yet.

The guts of the 900 - plenty of room. 2 good vent fans should cool it off well enough to operate without heat concerns.

I'd love to see the completed manifold in detail before it's mounted.
