basket ball court nightmare

This court, which is mostly used for community functions, is at the military housing facility I mentioned. The asked if I would take care of it. I showed these photos to Ray at CMS and he and I agree in that the floor has not been fully stripped in quite some time rather just cleaned and re-coated.
Obviously a sheet vinyl product, Ray's concern is liquid getting under the seams and causing it to lift. He has also see high pH strippers remove the color in this sort of product. Dry stripping would most likely remove the paint lines, or whats left of them.

He highly encourages my rookie ass to stay away.

Thoughts?

Lay out the chalanges and the reasons for the customer. Tell them why you need to do what you are needing to do and why it is going to be more money than usual. Give them the option on what to do. They may tell you just to do it and not care about the result or lines as long as the floor is shiny. Find out what it would take to re-line the floor as well and offer that as an option.

I would let the customer know, because of the necessity of having to strip the floor, the lines may be damaged or removed entirely and they will have to have the floor relined. Just go easy around the areas where the seams are lifting. Don't mop on a lot of stripper in those areas, maybe apply with a trigger sprayer and doodle bug it by hand. You can make that floor look really nice but you can't make it new again. I have a church that puts on a breakfast for the hungry every Thursday and they have a linoleum floor, about 2000 sqft. Once a year, we strip/seal/wax it, using a 175, black pads, rinsing with neutral cleaner to remove the stripped finish with a ninja portable and hard surface tool. We apply 1 coat of sealer and 2 coats of finish. We try not to over finish it as it takes more effort to strip it again the following year. If they are willing to give you a regular maintenance contract, you may want to build up your sealer and finish and come in and spray buff every so often.
