Anyone know what spec the oil needs to be for the Tuthill 4007 blower, it's the dual oil splash later type no grease.

Conventional motor oils, a 40wt, non detergent will suffice.
Specific oils that Tuthill recommends for the ambient temp range of a TM:

SHELL TELLUS® 150
(ISO 150)
CITGO A/W 150
(ISO 150)
CHEVRON RANDO HD 150
(ISO 150)
EXXON/MOBIL DTE EXTRA HEAVY
(ISO 150)

Synthetic:
PneuLube™ (available at most TM suppliers)
(ISO 100)
Exxon Mobil SHC 629
(ISO 150)
ShellOMALA® RL 150
(ISO 150)
.

Add fresh oil as required to maintain proper level. Drain and
refill after the first 100 hours of operation and thereafter every
1,000 hours of operation under normal service, more frequently
depending on the type of oil and oil operating temperature. (per Tuthill)

Capacities:
4007 Competitor

Gear end: 5.8 ounces (170 mL)
Drive end: 4.7 ounces (140 mL)

Vertical

Drive end: 6.4 ounces (190 mL)

what about the fancy oil they say to use in blowers?

As Kevin points out, it usually refers to the Synthetic lubricants such as Pneulube and Aeon PD.
The advantage to these synthetics is longer service (changeout) intervals. If you value the labor cost to change the oil in the blower, then the synthetics will reasonably cut your overall maintenance costs, even after factoring in the cost of the synthetic oil.

Last change I went with synthetic. It's nice not having to worry about changing it all the time. Just check ot make sure it's got oil and you're good to go. I run synthetic in my cat pump too. The intervals are well worth the extra money to me. I'd rather be spending time with my family than be out changing oil in my machine.

I change my engine oil in my van about 3-4 times a year, my van has a oil change reminder system. The oil never seems over dirty when changing either. And that's with my CDS system. Keep in mind I only put about 8,000 miles a year on my van too, I think I have just over 20,000 now with 2.5 years of ownership.
