I recently purchased a new Hydramaster Boxxer 318 and I must say I'm throughly impressed, this little machine kicks butt for the price! I bought this along with a box van as a secondary unit to backup my Butler. I've put about 15 hrs on it in the last few days and so far i'd say it cleans every bit as good as my Butler . It does take a bit longer to heat up than what i'm used to (about 10-12 minutes at full power), but no big deal. The 318 has plenty of vacuum and heat and seems to be a great unit for most residential jobs we do. I didnt expect this machine to perform as well as it does for only costing $12 grand, so I have to say i'm pleasantly surprised. We'll see how it holds up after I really put some hrs on it.

Cool. I was actually considering getting one of those to keep around just in case.
Thanks for the info.

Matt...I too have the 318 for over a year now. It has been a very good experience for me so far. Its the only truckmount I have used (used a porty for 20 years cleaning apartments). It does a great job for my residential uses. The only thing I dont like is that 50 gallon waste tank it comes with. I wish it was a lot bigger. Its been trouble free so far with a couple hundred hours on it. I am not sorry that I bought it, although as I said, I have never used another truckmount to compare it with. carpet cleaning Batavia Ohio http://www.revivecarpet.com

I've always been happy with my Butler and like I said before the 318 seems to be very comparable as far as cleaning. I got a promo deal on my 318 and they included the 70 gallon tank instead of the 50.

I demoed one once....it was a really nice entry level TM. We did not end up buying it. I was impressed with the heat. However the vacuum was a little weak for what we need somtimes. We do some long hose runs at a few apt complexes and commercial jobs and I just didnt want to sacrafice that suck! This is a great machine for someone who does residential, furniture and shorter hose runs hands down. It will work on anything really just meant for smaller type jobs. Keep in mind if you go with a 50 gallon waste tank vs the 70 galllon waste tank you will have better vacuum!....maybe go with an APO option on the 50 if they offer it. Having to shut down a couple times on a bigger dirty house sucks. I would buy a 318 especially upgrading from a portty or wanted a decent backup.

I agree this is definetly a machine for shorter hose runs. They say not to go over 300 ft. I only keep 250 in that van and thats all we'll be using with the 318.

It seems to have really good vacuum even with the 70 gallon tank.

Modify it 2.5 inch. You will be very impressed with the vacuum difference

yes. With such an old post, would be cool to here if that machine is still in service, or problems that you had, etc. And if replaced, was it replaced with a similar unit or a major upgrade? Thanks.. :)
