In all seriousness its about having systems and protocols.
By nature Im independant doin my own thing, hate rules and question everything.

And most independant business owners probably have a certain amount of that.
But there is probably a uniform way we answer the ph, greet the customer, do walk thru, and do our 12 step uber clean
The same applies to other areas of business have a uniform way its done, quotes, invoicing, maintainance, cracking heads

Dont ask if I take my own advice..

When I took over I was just shy of 21, and had no idea how to market the business residentially (neither did my dad), it took 2-3 years before things started moving in the right direction

Actually I do need to redouble my efforts on creating my accounting systems. That’s where he would struggle most.
Thanks BH
I needed this reminder

There really isn't much choice. They would find someone to fill in where they have shortcomings and just keep pushing forward.

They would handle the business part just fine. I think the question for them would be - Do I want to continue to work this hard in a place where I can't afford a home of my own. These thoughts come when they get married and have their first child.

They would do fine on their own.

Hardiest part is getting the work. You guys have spent years acquiring longtime clients, it should be easy street for them compared to just starting out.

An accountant, good trustworthy mechanic and keep doing what's been successful for them.

Accounting probably one area they will struggle for a while....

Budgeting....my wife is awesome at, so no replacing that personal daily attention....

But we do have accountants in place that can help with most other things

We would want Aron and his wife Jena at SFS at Jondon and do intend to get them there.

The equipment and chemistry they are familiar with and could survive on what we have...and would hopefully keep up with changes.

Working as crazy as me my wife says....not probably going to happen...and I tell them to then learn to do with less....and the business would be at it's peak....so plan around less including how often equipment is replaced....(just preparing with conversation)

The rest of the system is in place pretty well...and I have been intentionally giving more responsibility to everyone...

We are working on a new shop this summer at Aron and Jena's new location....so we are making plans....

(and I don't know why these million dollar life insurance policies keep showing up around the house :eekk: )

I make my kids figure out everything before I step in to help......they just hate it when they come to me and need something and I tell them.." what would you do if I wasn't here "......best they learn and try while I am here so if they cant ever get it....I am here to point them in the right direction...rather than do it for them and when I am 6 foot under they have no clue as to what to do......I was working on a pump in the garage yesterday and Katie needed me to fix something for her...she walked up to me and told me what she needed and I just pointed at the tools hanging on the wall and told her if she cant figure it out ..let me know...the kid went and figured it all out and fixed it...this is something she will remember...and I breath better knowing that she can take care of herself...........

Some time ago my son repaired a plumbing leak in his home. As he described the things he had to do, I asked him where he learned all of that. I was thinking he might have looked it up on the stinkernet.

“Oh no, Dad. Don’t you remember when we plumbed out that log cabin for those people and you (long description)?”

He was about six years old then. It was thirty years ago. They remember.
