It may, not sure about the dilution ratio it will need though.

Also a Haitian formula or white cotton cleaner (in other words a reducer) may work well.

the acid rinse may make it look gone while its wet..but may not cure it because its from water, not from high ph.

Water leaks are all different depending on what the water went through making the the stain(stuff in the ceiling ect.) I just did a leak job today, all it took was some OSR (peroxide) ,and the stain was gone. I would always start with an oxidizer first, hell some just rinse out with nothing.

Agree! Not expensive at all and an easy way to see if you can resolve it quickly.

the browning you are seeing is probably just dirt, just rinse it out.
