Bulk head in new van???

[1st choice restoration]

Bought a new van and it has a bulk head installed. Question is do I leave it in or take it out?? I'll be switching over an el diablo into it. Looks like I could take out the middle section of it for access and leave the 2 sides for a little safety? Is it okay to install machine right next to bulk head or how far away??

We've done both in the past. The machine if bolted in correctly is unlikely to hit you in an accident. If it does it wasn't a wreck you were going to survive anyway.

So the bulkhead has value if you have a bunch of loose items that could come flying and hit you and the passenger.

We did have one van we removed the center on, but it really only saved removal time and gave the distributor some access to the machine.

As far as space I'd leave yourself some space for repairs. At least 18 inches but 2 foot would probably be better if you can spare the space.

Don't overlook the security it gives you, separating the cargo area from the cab area.... Depending on where you service, it may be a good thing to leave in... My first van I bought a cage but never installed it... Second van had a cage in it, but it does become a PITA because I was so used to my old van... Now I got a box van I need to get going on it... Even though it's Hawaii, I still like the security part about it...

No way I could install el diablo 2 feet away from from bulk head. Wouldn't leave much in van. Wish I had some of rail system to slide truck mount out when it needs worked on. Maybe I need to just remove it...most all work is local

Mark may have some ideas he used to work at Steamway Denver they had a roll out system for their powermatic.
