California box truck owners

Has anyone put Ca numbers on your truck or obtained an motor carrier permit issued by DMV. Do you stop at truck weigh stations, and if you do, on empty or loaded side? thanks

I have the CA deal but no weigh stations around here.

and we do go through the weigh stations when open. I would say about 3 times per years is all it works out to be.

are you referring to DOT#?

If you act strictly as a mobile carpet cleaning unit a "big truck' is not required to have DOT number there are 4 specific provisions for DOT certs

1 A Motor carrier DOT cert is required for commercial transport of property with any vhicle with a GVWR of 10,000lbs or more

2 Or any vehicle of any weight class carrying Federal scheduled hazardous materials...such as explosives, radio active material

3 Any vehicle transporting 5 or more people or has a GVWR or 8,500lbs or greater

4 Any comical vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or greater is defined as a commercial carrier


in most states ..as long as you do not transport customers property or goods for sale to customers you do not meet the definition of a "motor carrier"

Randy- I believe if piking up and delivering rugs is part of the business it is required for those over 10k lbs.

generally yes, one then meets the definition as a "Motor Carrier" some states require DOT numbers for intrastate-only as well as interstate carriers Oregon and Michigan do for example. California does not so you can carry rugs in a vortex in California as long as are not leaving the state to pick-up or deliver the rugs and you do not need a DOT cert you are not engaged in interstate but intrastate

If I am correct the guy is asking about CA#'s not D.O.T. numbers
