Can you tell 100% when your water softener stops working or needs a recharge??

I never hooked mine up on the new TM. My bypass manifold at 300 hours looks brand new. I’m not saying the water softener is snake oil but. In my previous mount. I had to change the bypass filter every time I charged the softener. Who knows…..

to tell you the truth, no. But our area has naturally soft water. There is one city I service that does have very hard water and with that and the country folk, I decided to have a softener. I charge mine as part of the monthly maintenance. Its more a prevention thing than anything else.

To see if its working or not, you could use a test strip but quite frankly I have better things to do.

I kinda look at it like changing oil. I dont wait until the oil viscosity in the TM isnt working, just change it according to what the manufacturer says. (You wouldnt ask, Can you tell me 100% when your oil stops working or needs changing?)

Same with the softener. Find out the water hardness, see how much water you use and change it according to the directions.

The Detroit metro area has exceptional municipal water!! Naturally soft water and never a scale build-up.

At home I am on a well and use potassium chloride in my softener. Like Steve and Derek, if I forget to refill it, I notice it in the shower.

Hard water is different everywhere if you look on the map enclosed in the blog. In Salt Lake it is very hard and with hot truckmounts scale readily builds up and harms cleaning. Not so much in Washington where Hydramaster builds its truckmounts. https://blog.aramsco.com/hard-water-how-it-makes-cleaning-harder
I am not sure how accurate that map is. According to it, the area I am in is supposed to have very hard water and we don't.

Well, actually we do the last few weeks or so, but that's called ice!
