Did a job today where the rooms I didnt do are just over a year old. Her warranty states she must have them professionally cleaned with in 18 months etc. She has 2 spare rooms that never gets used. She asked if shed void her warranty if she dosent clean them since they still look brand new.

Anybody here know the answer to that? Thanks !! Karastan Kashmere - sweet looking !!

Amazing that she knows what her warranty says. If she doesn't abide by the written terms of the warranty, it is probably the out the warranter needs if there is a claim.

What's that old saying, every carpet needs cleaning... Just because it doesn't look dirty, doesn't mean it's not... When you start to see the dirt, the damage to the fiber is being done...

I've heard they need a receipt showing proof of cleaning within the time frame... Carpet warranties isn't worth the paper it's written on...

If she has an issue down the line and the mill wants proof that she did her part to maintain the warranty, she won't have it. Therefore, not cleaning will void the warranty.

The warranty doesn't say every 18 months unless the room is not used. It says every 18 months.

Even she doesn't use that room, that new carpet needs a gentle CRB'ing (copyright phrase, so send $10 for any use thereof). All the fuzzy bits need scrubbed out of it.

Every cleaner should know the answer to this or frankly not be in the business. The warranty is the warranty. Claims are denied constantly for failing to provide a receipt showing they have been professionally cleaned in the last 18 months. Most add that HWE is the preferred method. It's that simple.

I have seen dozens of denied claims in my area. No receipt. When I leave a receipt for a customer who is cleaning to maintain the warranty I write just "Carpet Cleaning" in the description. I peronally don't leave room descriptions. To my knowledge my receipt has been used twice in 4-5 years for a claim that's been filed. The carpet retailer/stores continue to tell me they just want a dated receipt that has the customers basic information.

I can't help but add comment about the polyester consumer nightmare that seems to be ongoing. 2 of my customers in the last year and a half have filed claims for premature wear in poly traffic lanes where the manufacturer sent an "inspector" to document the claim. On one of these he/she used a wimpy digital camera (with flash) to capture what was described as unremoved soil. Hence, no wear.

I went back and used a white towel test and a flood lamp directly over the carpet. No soil on the towel and the wear/destortion disappearing with the light. The customer hired another cleaner, no change. I don't know the outcome. The customer was ready to go to small claims court for $3,800

It's plain to me that carpet manufacturers are intent on denying claims. This inspector came from a county 2hrs away, bogus. I write "Carpet Cleaning" and a few words about HWE and IICRC methods, bla bla. But in the end it's the customer who must stand up for themselves and hell yes the warranties are real and they claims will be denied.

I just tell them that they don't stand behind the warranty anyway.. I also tell them they should have their carpets cleaned once or twice a year depending if they have kids or pets.. I will tell them to call about their warranty if the carpet is wearing too fast. Its fun when I get a call from the "carpet inspector"!! Never have they taken care of my customers complaints.

I do not get any referrals from carpet installers.. lol

A lot of carpet retailers are very lax in informing customers about any warranties. I have a very good customer who replaced aprox 1500sqft. with beautiful snow white 65 ounce nylon carpet from a very reputable retailer. Within a week she had spilled a glass of red wine on it. When she called me, I let her know that most likely we will get it out but she should consult her warranty just in case. What warranty she says? The retailer did not inform her about her warranties or give her the paper work with the warranty information on it. She called the retailer and they very grudgingly gave the information. We got the stain out but if we hadn't that would have been a prime candidate for a warranty claim. In the past have done warranty work fro Du Pont. I did have one customer who had the lower floor of his house recarpeted at Du Ponts expense.

Having done carpet inspection for several fiber manufacturers and carpet mills, I saw many warranty claims. Many times the carpet was replaced or some other solution provided by the carpet mill. They did stand behind the warranty. But the customer had to do their part. If the issue was caused by or exacerbated by lack of cleaning, the claim would be denied.

When they sell inerior carpet, they do leave themselves an "out" in the warranty. But I have always found that they do stand behind what is written.

Just saw these specific paragraphs in the CleanFax article on commercial mill warranties:

"Tandus

Rotary Prohibition Statement: To all valued Tandus customers, professional cleaners and all concerned: Please be advised that Tandus does emphatically prohibit the use of all rotary devices or machines for the purpose of carpet cleaning, physical agitation and/or speed drying. All rotary devices, including but not limited to, bonnet machines and Cimex triple head machines, will void the manufacturer’s warranty. They are considered improper and non-approved and shall not be utilized on any Tandus product."

"Beaulieu

Agitation of the floor covering (after application of cleaning product) is accomplished using a machine that powers dual cylindrical brushes that will lift the carpet as brushes turn. Beaulieu Commercial does not recommend the use of any type of “bonnet” or rotary shampoo cleaning method for the BOLYU, Cambridge or Aqua carpet brands. Use of the “bonnet” method may void all warranties."
