By Doyle Bloss and Robert Kravitz HydraMaster Corporation In January 2014, a study was released in the United States that should put an end to any doubts cleaning professionals, carpet consumers in the residential environment, health care professionals, educational facilities, building owners, *and facility managers have about carpeting and indoor air quality. According to Dr. ...

Great job. Now we all need to promote this information in our communications to our consumers.

Great job. Now we all need to promote this information in our communications to our consumers.

Going to my Facebook page for starts right now...and printing off and saving in pdf.

I have quite a few opportunities to share this information (and have shared similar) while cleaning with clients.

Great stuff!

It only makes sense, without carpet you have dust settling on hard surfaces.

Using a particle counter you will see a spike from 600-800ppm to 18-20,000 ppm just through normal activity in the room.

And where do you think all that dust goes? Yep you breathe it. Not too big a deal for most people but if you are an allergy sufferer, you just amplified the problem you were trying to minimize. :eekk:

Excellent article. Many allergists still pass out pamphlets to their patients telling them to get rid of all carpet and soft textiles.

One of the parts of Berry's test that isn't mentioned was measuring the height that "respirable particulates" are kicked into the air from walking on carpet and hard floors. A few inches from carpet, 30 to 45 inches from a hard surface, making hard floors exactly the wrong choice for elementary schools or homes with kids under that size.

Carpet cleaning may be more technical and less of a DYI than cleaning a hard surface, but needs a lot less frequent cleaning. Ask anyone chasing dust bunnys around their new hardwood if those ever appeared when they had carpet.

Good article. Although it would be much more helpful to know what the corresponding population growth was in the same time period.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback - both directly and here on Mikeysboard. This is important information to get out to the industry. We have posted more of the resource links for those of you who might be interested in reposting to your own blogs like Mike did - and that can provide more detail to health professionals who might end up reading your blogs.
