Chevy van-how important is the wheelbase length in getting parking

Trying to decide between a Chevy extended or regular.

The main reason I am changing from my Sprinter is parking in San Francisco, can be a challenge. On the other hand I carry a lot of equipment + rugs and there's never enough room in the van. So a little extra room will be handy.

So, those of you who work in similar busy cities like San Francisco:
  • How much harder will it be to park an extended?
  • And how much of a difference does the wheel base 155" versus 135" make in actually being able to maneuver in in tight parking situations?

I've got the Express 2500 Extended. Just a little more ass to haul behind you. For me, it's just more room to carry extra "stuff". It won't compare to the Sprinter in size.

Robert, is Youngstown a challenge in finding parking?
How is it in tight parking situations compared to the non extended?
And does the longer wheelbase makes much difference in getting in?

Get what you need.

If you can work comfortably out of the standard go for it, but you'll be giving up a lot of real estate.

I like the looks of an extended chevy vs the over hanging ford. ( but I'm a ford guy )

I'd always here the sprinters were tight turners.

What model sprinter do you have
My sprinter will run circles around my Chevy, even though it has longer wheel base

Parking isn't an issue where I live so take it for what its worth. I have both GMs, standard and extended, there is a considerable difference in turning radius. I still wouldn't give up the extra space.

Carl, I have the 3500 extended (170 wheel base). Turning is fine, finding parking and fitting into tight spaces (which I can do with my regular Econoline 250) is an issue.

Thanks Shane, the turning radius is exactly what I am concerned about.

I've got a e250 '94 carry everything including rugs. Learn to fold em. I put a shelf in, sits atop the Legend can get 12 footers in but just have to take the Mirror off.:yoda:
