I have this hooked rug - 8 x10 - http://www.dashandalbert.com/product/view/west-star-wool-hooked-rug--RDA075

It needs a good cleaning. Does it need any special treatment different from oriental rugs? Washing ok with the cotton canvas?

Also, I don't know of any rug washers in my area (Des Moines, IA). Any comments on how to find a rug cleaner that knows what they are doing? Are any of the franchise companies good with rugs? Service Master, Zerorez, etc.?

Thanks!

The latexed on backings are often an issue when doing submersion cleaning, pit wash, cleaning on a wash floor or other methods that use a lot of water. Filler in the latex washes away and leaves the backing loose.

Your idea of finding a rug specialist is the ticket. If you end up cleaning yourself, I would do a very thorough dry vacuuming / dusting and then HWE with Wool Perfect prespray and Wool Zone as a rinse.

There are certainly some franchise operations that know how to clean rugs, but I would not make the blanket claim that any particular franchise knows how to clean rugs at each location.

Dan Dahlin runs weekly rug cleaning show on-line and he is in your area. I think it is Professional Cleaners Network. You might also check with the guys at Iowa paper in Iowa City as they know several good rug washers.
